Vajrasattva’s Samaya

MA NU PA LA YA BENZAR SATO
O Vajrasattva, protect the samaya.

TE NO PA TISHTHA DRI DHO ME BHA WA
May you remain firm in me.

SU TO KA YO ME BHA WA
Grant me complete satisfaction.

SU PO KA YO ME BHA WA
Grow within me (increase the positive within me).

ANU RAKTO ME BHA WA
Be loving towards me.

SARVA SIDDHI ME PRA YATSA
Grant me all the accomplishments,

SARVA KARMA SU TSA ME
As well as all the activities.

TSITTAM SHRE YAM KU RU
Make my mind virtuous.

HUNG
Syllable of the heart essence, the seed syllable of Vajrasattva.

HA HA HA HA
Syllables of the four immeasurables, the four empowerments, the four joys, and the four kāyas.

HO
Syllable of joyous laughter in them.

BHA GA WAN SARVA TA THA GA TA
Bhagawan, who embodies all the Vajra Tathāgatas,

Do not abandon me.

BENZRI BHA WA
Grant me realization of the vajra nature.

O great Samayasattva,

Syllable of uniting in non-duality


Vajrasattva’s name (Tib. dorje sempa) means “diamond being.” He represents the innate purity of the mind. Vajrasattva’s mantra is a powerful purification prayer that invokes the mindstreams of all the Buddhas.

You can imagine your mind as being like a sky through which clouds pass. The clouds come, and they go, but the sky remains untouched. The sky is inherently blue and clear, and although its blueness and clarity can be obscured, it can never be destroyed. The clouds are like greed, hatred, and delusion that pollute the mind. Because of the transient nature of these mental states, they can not be said to be an inherent part of the mind. They may obscure the mind’s inherent awareness and compassion, but those qualities are never absent.

Purifying negative karma makes it much easier to attain liberation and actualize the path to enlightenment. It also decreases your suffering and any obstacles that might arise. Purifying negative karma means that you won’t have to experience the many eons of suffering in the lower realms that result from not purifying even one negative karma, and you won’t have to experience again and again without end the four suffering results that arise from each unpurified negative karma.

To meditate on Vajrasattva is the same as to meditate upon all the Buddhas. His hundred-syllable mantra is the quintessence of all mantras. -Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
