Originally inspired by GM’s patriotic “Spirit of America” cars from 1974, this Nova started life during the height of the energy crisis, when fuel-conscious six-cylinder cars were outselling V8s. But now it’s 2026, America’s 250th birthday… and we’re bringing the horsepower back.
Phase one of the build starts with yanking the tired inline-six and swapping in a 415-horsepower 383 stroker small block Chevy built for reliable street performance and summer road trips. But this is only the beginning.
Eventually, this Nova will receive a big-cube big-block Chevy based on Summit Racing SPC blocks—but first, we need to get this thing on the road.
In this video, we put together a street-friendly, 415-horsepower stroker motor for a summer of shows and road-tripping. Check out our build recipe and let us know what you think--or what you’d do differently.
