With the help of Materia Collective, Metroid Piano is my first ever solo piano album and I'm so glad that it came out the way it did. The Metroid franchise has always shined in its world-building and ominous sense of atmosphere, so what better way to capture the alien thrill of space then with the vast sounds and timbres of a lone piano? From the heroic trek through Brinstar to the mystery of Kraid’s Lair and the impending dread of hunting Ridley, this album aims to encapsulate the ride of emotions that Metroid is praised for and bring them into a concert setting. First of all, I have to apologize for not getting a new cover out since like last July or something. This last semester of school going into my 5th year of college was especially tough on my workload, so the most I could do musically was participate in some albums/collabs and continue uploading to Spotify. For those of you that have continued listening to my music on streaming services and/or have been pledging through Patreon for the last couple months still, I can't be thankful enough for the support.
Anyways, where to begin with this piece? After being hooked into the Monster Hunter series back when Rise came out, I started World over the summer and got into the Iceborne expansion shortly afterwards. From the moment I stepped into the village of Seliana and heard this hub theme, I loved every warm moment of it and knew I had to cover it somehow.
It took until around September to actually get an idea of how I wanted to approach the cover. I had been listening to a lot of Zac Zinger's Monster Hunter albums (Monster Hunter: The Jazz and Monster Hunter Swing), and the smooth ways he arranged themes like Pokke Village and Yukumo Farm were definitely the main inspirations for this version. I wanted to make something that'd sound like it belongs in official Capcom Monster Hunter jazz album but for a more modern Monster Hunter tune. Hopefully with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and Monster Hunter's 20th anniversary coming up we might hear some news of some new music albums!
Huge thanks to all of the performers that joined in for this piece, they really went above and beyond to get the vibes just right and I'm super thankful for their contributions. Make sure to check them out at the links up above! I'm really hoping to be able to get back to a semi-regular cover schedule for 2022, so I wish you all a happy New Year full of great music and more videogame jazz covers!

Fans of this channel know that Final Fantasy XIII has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time and is also one of my favorite games ever. While I have played the game and have covered several tracks from it (including The Promise, Prelude, and Hanging Edge), I haven't experienced much of it's sequel XIII-2. While I did cover one track from the game (the main theme Wishes) and have listened to a few tracks in the OST, I never really expressed as much interest in this game as the original. However, one day I was just randomly watching the fighting game streamer dekillsage and heard some amazing music in the background. Turns out it was this piece! I knew right away that I had to cover this. For this ambitious arrangement, I wanted to cover all the basses that the original tune did with its funky and fast-paced jazz fusion style. For that, I got some familiar faces and some new friends to join me on the tune! Make sure y'all show some love to Lacey Johnson on electric guitar, ViolinGamer on violin, GuitarSVD on acoustic guitar, and Music on the D Lo on bass! Hope y'all enjoy this cover, it was a long time coming but I'm very proud of the final product. All the collaborators killed it and it's just a great vibe all around. Make sure to leave a like if you enjoyed this to help support the effort put into this track! Your pianist, DS

One of my favorite fighting games of all time, Rivals of Aether was first announced just about 7 years ago with a gameplay trailer showing off the characters Zetterburn and Orcane. Oceanic Breeze happens to be Orcane's stage theme, so I decided to release this arrangement that I've been sitting on for a few months! Unfortunately I don't have a live performance vid of this, but I hope you'll enjoy the pretty Synthesia antics. With this arrangement, I wanted to take the most fun elements of the original tune and expand on them. There's lots of use of mixolydian mode within the melody in order to compliment the dance-like chord progressions, which is further enhanced by the high-energy syncopated rhythm lines, basslines, and percussion. I translate those elements as best I could to the solo piano setting, and honestly I'm really happy with how it turned out! I hope this performance brings some bubbly happiness into day :D Your pianist, DS

Earlier this year, the fighting game man himself @Maximilian_Dood hosted a tournament sponsored by Twitch Rivals called "KI Lives" in order to show how passionate and hype of a community still rallies behind the amazing fighting game Killer Instinct. It was a great event and I absolutely loved watching it and getting my mind blown by the over-the-top action of the game. Afterwards, in a tournament reflection video (youtube.com/watch?v=Ex3S0hTA7kk) there was a song playing in the background that sounding like an emotional Jimi Hendrix solo over the Killer Instinct main theme, and I loved it so much I had to figure out where it's from. Turns out it's the last track composer Mick Gordon wrote for the Killer Instinct Season 2 soundtrack, hidden as a bonus track after the end of the last official OST as a farewell to working on the game score. Since this piece is so beautiful and I wanted to pay my respects to the KI community after the amazing Twitch Rivals tourney, I decided to make my attempt to cover it in DS piano fashion. Hope you all enjoy it! #BringBackKI DS

━━━━━━━━━༻♫༺━━━━━━━━━
So I did say on the last vid that I've been getting into Monster Hunter music... The idea for making this chill cover actually first came from @Soundole announcing his annual Chillout Contest for 2021. Since I got 3rd place back in 2019 but didn't get to enter last year, I was wondering what track I should try out for this year. Now since I've been getting into Monster Hunter, of course I started watching a ton of videos by @gaijinhunter. In the background of a lot of his vids he plays this track, of which I've heard so much that I've unconsciously started whistling along with it whenever watching his vids! I thought it would be the perfect track to arrange into a long, calm, and relaxing tribute. Honestly I didn't even realize that the track length maximum for the Soundole contest was 7 minutes, the arrangement just somehow ended up being that long after I came up with the ideas for it. I threw in a ton of the techniques I know and combined them with some of the fun arrangement bits from the Monster Hunter Jazz album version of this song. Even for a "slow & easy" song such as this, playing any tune for 7 minutes straight with little to no mistakes is a small marathon (especially with the tricky bits I added in every here and there for atmospheric flair). It took me a lot of work and effort to put this together, so I'd very much appreciate if y'all could put this on repeat for some background music to help relax & study to! Any support against the awful Youtube algorithm would be much loved and appreciated. Now that I've covered Lon Lon Ranch, Crimson Sunset, National Park, AND Traverse Town, I realize that I've been covering a lot of town/village/locale themes this year. They've been some of my favorites to arrange/learn and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do! Your pianist, DS

So y'all remember back in my cover of Proof of a Hero where I said "I'd like to try to get into the franchise with Monster Hunter Rise"? Welp, I'm now over 300 hours into this game and I think I may or may not be addicted to this franchise. The whole franchise has some amazing tunes (and orchestral concerts, AND official jazz albums, AND EVEN official piano covers...) that I can't believe I've been missing out on for so many years. However, with this Rise I'm glad to have been able to hear this track in-game. I knew from the moment I first heard those tense strings and that luscious melody kick in that I had to cover this song. What a fitting theme for such a thematic and emphatic flagship monster, Magnamalo. However, there was so much going on in this song that I just had to make this into a piano duet to capture the full force and essence of the piece. I'm super honored to have @WolfyMelon for this cover, as she's an amazing pianist who's been covering Monster Hunter tracks for a long time (and has already covered a lot of the tunes I wanted to try out sometime haha). Make sure to check her out at the links below or through the endscreen at the end of the vid. I haven't ever made a piano duet with a pianist that isn't myself before, so for my first try at this I am super happy with how the end result came out. So to any of y'all playing Monster Hunter Rise, I hope you guys enjoy Title Update 2 along with me! I'll be streaming myself playing through it as well on my Twitch page (link below) if you wanna check it out and talk about music and chill with me. Even if you're not playing MHRise, thank you so much for checking out this duet since I know you'll love it! Your pianist, DS

Happy 1st birthday to Final Fantasy 7 Remake! Don't really have much to say on this cover since it's a Final Fantasy piano collections arrangement, but I do love how the sing-songy nature of Tifa's Theme is translated to piano by Shiro Hamaguchi (who happens to be one of my favorite arrangers/orchestrators of all time). IDK about you, but every time I listen to the main melody of this song I feel like the first line should have the lyrics: "Her name is Tifa Her name is Tifa And he is Cloud" Anyone else hear that? At all? just me? oh ok... Anyways just a quick little blurb from me this time. Might have some more piano collections arrangements coming up soon since some of my bigger projects are a little delayed. But they are coming along well, so stay tuned! #FinalFantasyVII #FinalFantasy7 #FinalFantasy7RemakePokémon Gold & Silver - National Park [Nostalgic Piano Fantasia] || DS MusicDS Music2021-04-09 | National Park from Pokémon Gold & Silver is such an iconic tune that means a lot in nostalgia to many OG Pokémon players. It was my privilege to make a piano fantasia style arrangement for the Pixel Mixers album "Catch This! Vol. 2: Goldenrod FM", and I hope y'all enjoy it!
In both iterations of generation 2 (Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal and Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver), National Park is one of the most iconic tracks in the game if not in the entire franchise. So many fans get nostalgia from hearing this beautiful tracks, and even for a person like me who's never really gotten into Pokémon I hear so much nostalgic charm in it. That's why when Pixel Mixers was recruiting for its Pokémon Gen 2 album "Catch This! Vol. 2: Goldenrod FM", I was extremely honored to be chosen to arrange this track. My thoughts going into this arrangement was to make it as piano concerto-ish and crystalline as possible, sort of in the vein of Debussy's "Claire de Lune". Balancing the fine line between fantastical/technical piano elements in Chopin-esque "Fantasie Impromptu" style along with delicate/romantic melodic lines was tough and it took me several days of arranging to figure out how I wanted it to sound, but I'm very proud of the 6 minute long arrangement that came out of it! I also added in the piano introduction from the HeartGold and SoulSilver version of this track and made some variations on it for the middle cadenza of the piece. Unfortunately I don't have video for this one since it was recorded for an album but I hope y'all enjoy seeing how many notes I had to play in Synthesia :P Hope you enjoy the emotional whiplash of going from last week's rockin' Guilty Gear song to this week's quiet, emotional arrangement haha. A new actual vid will be coming up next week as always, so be sure to hit the like button and leave a comment to help support me in the never-ending struggle against the Youtube algorithm 😠 Your pianist, DS

#Pokemon #GSC #Generation2Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R - Simple Life (Bridgets Theme) [Rock Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2021-04-02 | While us fighting game fans collectively wait for Guilty Gear Strive to release, I decided to make another fighting game music cover to bide the time! Enjoy this track from everyone's next favorite Guilty Gear with rollback netcode, Simple Life (Bridget's Theme) from Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R.
Has it really been 8 months since I released my last fighting game remix? I'm sorry it's been forever since the This Is True Love Makin' future funk remix, but big fighting game collabs are coming back! I've been planning a few since January and I can't wait to show y'all more of them. I wanted to start out strong with a song from an Arc System Works mainstay franchise, Guilty Gear! This game in particular, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R (try saying that five times fast), is super popular for its introduction of rollback netcode on Steam (aka godlike online matches). It was for this reason that I got into the game, and now I'm in love with the metal AF aesthetic of the Guilty Gear franchise (along with Daisuke Ishiwatari now being one of my favorite VGM composers ever). While I don't have a console/good PC for Guilty Gear Strive (the newest game in the series that is yet to release), the hype for the beta was unreal and the gameplay/visuals/music was amazing. While the entire Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus R soundtrack has a ton of bangers, this particular track really hit me with those early 2000s "Sonic Adventure" rock vibes that I love to listen to. It's got that happy-go-lucky metal energy that matches the character of Bridget and his deadly teddy bear an yo-yo so well. Since I wanted to get authentic vibes from this cover, I had to make a rock arrangement of this somehow. Luckily I managed to get the amazing @Legendav to join on guitars/bass and Rahul Vanamali (youtube.com/c/RahulVanamali) on drums, along with arranging some fun violin lines played by @PitTan (which were actually based off some of the melodies of the Simple Life N.Y. vocal version). Anyways, hope you enjoy this quick break from the piano covers. Now that I am basically obsessed with Arc System Works and fighting games in general, expect some top tier fighting game music remixes coming within the next few months! For now though, it's "Heaven or Hell, LET'S ROCK!" Your pianist, DS

#GuiltyGearStrive #GuiltyGear #GGACRGodzilla: King of the Monsters - Main Title [Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2021-03-27 | Godzilla vs. Kong is stomping into theaters next week! To celebrate, here's an epic piano cover of the Godzilla main theme from Bear McCreary's soundtrack to Godzilla: King of the Monsters!
Hope you're decently surprised by this BONUS ROUND piano cover! With a new Godzilla movie right around the corner, now's the perfect time for me to pay homage to everyone's favorite big ol' lizard kaiju (we are Team Godzilla in this household). Funny enough, I didn't start getting into the Godzilla series until about last month. However, once I get started on a new interest, I go wayyy too deep. I've watched the classic 1954 Godzilla, Godzilla 2000, all the new Monsterverse Movies, and Shin Godzilla (you know I gotta cover "Who Will Know" soon 'cuz gosh Shiro Sagisu is a legendary composer) along with delving into the comics and even maybe kinda sorta splurging too much money on an Evangelion x Godzilla model of Mechagodzilla/Kiryu painted like Eva Unit-01 I mean uhhh funny nuclear lizard go brrr.... Akira Ifukube's score to the original movie is an iconic masterpiece and Bear McCreary did an amazing job paying homage to it while adding his own spice with the roaring choir chants in the track. I tried to capture some of that same vibe by adding accents and chords within the left hand line that mimicked the choir chants, and I may have chanted along while performing the piece haha (it's literally impossible to not say "GO-JI-RA" for the last three notes I swear). Anyways, hope y'all enjoy this little movie soundtrack tangent. I know I just posted an anime cover like last week but I swear I'll get back to video game music. If you do want to see me cover more soundtracks from shows or movies or anime, do let me know though in the comments! Your pianist, DS

Happy Monster Hunter day! As a general fan of Capcom games and their music, Monster Hunter is one series that I haven't gotten into yet just because it seems so daunting (it because I don't have the platforms for it haha). However after trying out the Monster Hunter Rise demo from the Switch eShop and fooling around with multiplayer modes a bit, I think I've been having a pretty good time with it! Definitely want to try to get into the franchise with this title. As far as the song goes, Proof of a Hero is just as iconic and daunting a track as Monster Hunter is a daunting series. Rise's version of the main theme still embodies the heroic theme with so much drive while also giving its own unique flairs and colors to the piece. Big shoutout to Tim de Man for the free piano sheet music, make sure to check him out in the links below. I took the arrangement and also added a few of my own spices to it, so I hope y'all enjoy it! Wouldn't be another year of DS Music without some sorta Final Fantasy XIII music thrown into the playlist just a few weeks after another Final Fantasy cover, right? As you'll hear from me now and for many years to come, I can just never get enough of composer Masashi Hamauzu's music and this track is no exception. I actually originally transcribed and arranged this track for the GameGrooves Quickfire Cover Contest last month which was based on making a Final Fantasy piano cover. Since I've done a ton of Piano Collections pieces in the past before, I wanted to challenge myself and cover a more unconventional song that didn't already have sheet music for it already. This track "The Hanging Edge" plays in the first chapter of the game and then a appears briefly later, but man is it a way to hook you in. Plinky, off-putting piano lines followed by enormous orchestra and ominous synths along with a killer violin solo give it sort of a Hans Zimmer vibe while still being uniquely Hamauzu. I also decided to pick this song since I FINALLY ACTUALLY STARTED PLAYING THE GAME (can you believe it? I actually played the game of a song I'm covering? Shocking). While the gameplay of Chapter 1 can be super tedious and linear and boring, the music actually conveys this feeling quite well while also building tension and drama. Be sure to stick around for the "DS Dissects" livestream of this piece which is coming back this week! I got a really special guest onboard for this one and I hope y'all will enjoy the musical breakdown. Your pianist, DS

Pack your bags, I'm now an anime pianist. Weeb pianist jokes aside, the story of how I got to posting this today is actually a pretty interesting one. Back in like December when winter break was starting, one of my friends got me into watching Neon Genesis Evangelion with a couple other Eva newbies. Long story short, I really really liked the story, world-building, art-direction, and especially the characters and themes (for those of you wondering who's my favorite waifu, we're Kaworu stans in this household 😤). However, one of the things that really stuck with me as a musician was the soundtrack. Shiro Sagisu has this very poignant style that intricately and masterfully weaves between being upbeat/jazzy/smooth and then contrasting with very humanistic/touching songs. One of those tracks that I especially liked was this track that plays in a mysterious moment in the first episode, and the pops up here and there throughout the series until it makes one last ominous return at the end of End of Evangelion. The way it evolves throughout the series just colors the mystery of Eva's premise so well, even with a such a seemingly simple and repetitive chord progression. Watching Eva has also been getting me into more Hideaki Anno related things along with other classic staples of Japanese media such as Godzilla and maybe Gundam one day. Not saying that I'm gonna become an anime pianist... but it is tempting 🤔 So while we wait for months to finally get the last Evangelion Rebuild movie released to us filthy casual Americans (or until a cam rip of the movie pops up...), I hope you enjoy this haunting and chilling piano theme that I feel goes a bit under-appreciated in the Evangelion OST! I'll be back with more video game music next week, so stay tuned. Your pianist, DS

#Evangelion #シンエヴァンゲリオン劇場版 #エヴァンゲリオン #SHINEVANGELIONOctopath Traveler - Decisive Battle II [Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2021-03-05 | With Project Triangle Strategy from Square Enix getting all the hype recently from the last Nintendo Direct, I thought now would be a good time to share a bombastic solo piano arrangement of the iconic Decisive Battle 2 from Octopath Traveler!
Time for another track from the DS back-catalog of things I could've posted last year but never got around to! This track was originally written for the Materia Collective album "FLAMESGRACE: A Tribute to Octopath Traveler" (link above to stream/download). I'm super happy to get to be onboard this amazing album of top-tier arrangements, and extra honored to be able to cover this iconic track. Translating full orchestra + drum set to solo piano was a daunting task, but I'm really proud of this arrangement. While a lot of it is heavy and powerful left-hand shenanigans combined with frantic right-hand lines, I wanted to balance it with some delicate lines here and there to give it some nuance too. First of all, I'm terribly sorry that this is just a Synthesia video rather than a full performance. However, there's some funny stories behind that: Originally this arrangement was meant for string quartet and piano, and I had recorded my piano part with video just fine. However, the strings had some issues and couldn't record just before the deadline for the album hit, so I had to flip this on a dime into a solo piano arrangement and get a recording out quickly. Therefore, I only have MIDI and audio for this track. However, if enough of y'all are interested then I could try to muster up another string section to get the full version of this up on Youtube one day! Finally glad I got to cover this track, been wanting to put this on Youtube for years. Unfortunately won't have a DS Dissects for this track due to schedule issues, but if you all want to see one later then let me know in the comments below! Once again, be sure to check out the full album "FLAMESGRACE: A Tribute to Octopath Traveler" (link above). Your pianist, DS

When it comes to gaming icons of the horror genre, Silent Hill 2 is definitely near the top of that list next to titans like Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Its soundtrack is also a landmark in its own right, with its eerie yet brokenly human combination of ambient and rock tracks. For this cover, I wanted to capture the mental struggles of James Sunderland and the journey he embarks on into Silent Hill, only to be tormented by the hellscape of the Otherworld and have his entire worldview twisted. The simple introductory melodic line goes through all sorts of modulations and twisting technical passages in the arrangement before ending up a hollow husk of its former self, with all semblance of phrasing and emotion gone as it fades into the background. This cover was originally created for the Pixel Mixers January cover contest which was based on Capcom vs. Konami, so I thought it was about time I paid my respects to the music of this great horror franchise. While current relations within Konami doesn't make it look like Silent Hills or whatever the PT demo was will be developed more anytime soon, I'm still hoping that someday we'll be able to revisit the town of Silent Hill and the breathtaking atmosphere it has been remembered for throughout the years. #FinalFantasyXIV #Endwalker #Stormblood #PianoCollectionsFinal Fantasy XIV - Crimson Sunset [Flute & Piano Duet] (ft. GameroftheWinds) || DS MusicDS Music2021-02-19 | With Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker just recently being announced, I'm so excited to finally get the share another Final Fantasy XIV Piano Collections track that I've been working on for months! Huge thanks to GameroftheWinds for gorgeously playing the flute part of this duet based on the Kugane theme from Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood.
I never seem to get enough of the Final Fantasy Piano Collections, and the album for Final Fantasy XIV is full of stand-out tracks. From the relaxing "Serenity" which I covered last year (youtube.com/watch?v=PJ_0Q8uJF6g) to the intense piano duet of "Ink Long Dry", there's just so many different moods and colors present in it. "Crimson Sunset" is especially beautiful since it's originally a duet for shakuhachi and piano. Along with re-orchestrating the source track to have a much more dynamic/scale-drive piano background in the first part (which I like to call "arm-day" for pianists, playing in C# major is mega yikes), the second part beefs up the intensity into almost a battle track. I definitely think the original arrangement by Keiko captures the bold crimson color of the port town of Kugane beautifully. However, I ran into one small problem when I wanted to play this track: no official sheet music exists for any of Final Fantasy XIV Piano Collections! Transcribing by ear from just audio is something I'm not a stranger to, but it was definitely an interesting challenge to distinguish some of the intricacies of the lush piano harmonies and fast-paced scales from just the reverb-washed recording (tho tbh I too subject my piano mixes to way too much reverb). A cool thing I learned during the process though is that the new piano VST I'm using (the Garritan CFX) is sampled off of the same model Yamaha CFX that was used to record the piano collections, so in a way I'm playing the same piano as in the recording (at least, as long as I can mix it to sound similar enough haha)! Another challenge with getting this piece together was finding someone to fill the shakuhachi part. While I couldn't find any shakuhachi players, GameroftheWinds was able to beautifully emulate the inflections of the shakuhachi just through the flute part. He even added in his own little counter-melody at the end which I thought meshed really well with the vibe of the piece! Super happy to have had him onboard. After months after transcribing and practicing, I'm super happy to finally share this with y'all. Even if Final Fantasy piano covers don't always perform as well on the channel, I'm still happy that the people who do listen to these covers enjoy them as much as they do. Can't wait to hear the new FFXIV Piano Collections tracks added in the "Scions and Sinners" official arrangement album as well! Catch you guys again next week. Your pianist, DS

#Zelda35thAnniversary #OcarinaofTime #MajorasMaskLegend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Lon Lon Ranch [Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2021-02-12 | With the 35th anniversary of Legend of Zelda coming up soon, what better way to kick off the restart of DS Music than with a nostalgic piano arrangement of Lon Lon Ranch?
🎶Guess who's back? Back again?🎶 What's poppin' fellas? Been a good 7 months since I last uploaded an original cover, but I'm finally back! I'm super sorry to have left y'all hanging for so long since the "This is True Love Makin'" remix released. I was mostly just struggling to find time for practicing since I had just started the dual degree BS/ME program at my college, and that required a lot of work. However, you guys have still put out so much support for my music over the last couple months that it's still mind-blowing to me. From the huge amounts of streams on Spotify, the ridiculous amount of people buying sheet music from Musicnotes, and of course the continued support on Patreon, I can't thank you guys enough for helping me get through this pandemic. During this period of not posting vids, I was able to compile a bit of content on the side. As you may or may not have already seen, I released a remastered Breath of the Wild album (fanlink.to/songs_of_the_champions) and also streamed more on Twitch (twitch.tv/ds_music) doing everything from gaming to music reviews and even a few piano live streams. Here and there I also posted little sneak previews of content on my Twitter (twitter.com/DS_Music394) just quick and easy enjoyment. However, I also started compiling some recordings on the side for later use. Now that I feel like I have a substantial backlog of music to post in case life suddenly becomes hectic again, I felt like now was the right time to get back into the swing of things and fulfill my New Year's resolution of making more music! So a bit about this arrangement in particular: I actually recorded this over a year ago for a Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask remix album released by Pixel Mixers (see links above). I initially got the idea for the general tone from the lore of what happens to Lon Lon Ranch: It starts out as this happy-go-lucky place where people sing "where's my horse" and then eventually fell into ruin and dismay by Breath of the Wild. I wanted to capture a sort of nostalgic feeling, like a person reminiscing about better days of their youth. The beginning starts with wistful chords and little hints of the main melody, just hints of a memories. As the middle of the song fades in (and the faded film effect lifts on the video), you get caught up in the memory so much that it's like being taken back to the good old days as the melody comes in full swing. However, by the last third of the piece you wake up to realize it was all a dream, with the triumphant and whimsical melody fades back out, leaving only the scraps of memories you started with and the image of a ruined ranch in the present. So I hope you enjoy this track and are just as excited for future covers as I am! This year is looking to be full of crazy ideas and I can't wait to share them with you guys. Your pianist, DS

After the amazing reception to my “Precious Heart” cover from Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha ft. And what other fighting game track to cover/remix than the “this is tuna and bacon” track, aka “This Is True Love Makin’” from Capcom vs. SNK 2. Since the track already has a pretty boppin’ groove on its own, I wanted to take the classic house elements of the original and bump them up with a more modern future funk style in the vein of artists such as Moe Shop, Yung Bae, and Flamingosis. But in order to do that I needed just a few more instruments, so thankfully this group of top tier musicians came to the call! Both Mohmega (from my Mario Kart Wii Bowser’s Castle cover) and Music on the D Lo (from my MAGFest 2020 Dave & Danny Chill Show set) are familiar faces with plenty of funky chops, but Lacey Johnson is a fresh face to the channel who’s been killing it recently in VGM. I swear she has to have doppelgängers or something cuz I don’t know how she’s managed to put out so many banging tracks and collabs recently. So huge thanks to all these musicians for helping set the stage for the largest EDM-style track I’ve made since my Tokyo Daylight remix from last year. I’m really proud of this final product and hope there’s something exciting in store for every listener. This year was a heccin’ roller coaster ride, from my co-op to all the recent world events, but one thing that has stood out to me through it all is all the amazing collabs I’ve had the honor to be a part of or put together. Each of the collab tracks are some of my favorites from this last year, and I’ve learned so much musically from each and every one. So to Tyler Jenkins, RichGC, Hashel, Ro Panuganti, Justin Levine, John Stacy, Cyril the Wolf, ChaoticMeatball, TeraC, Eric L, Kube, Frostbite, Soundole, The Consouls, and everyone in this vid, thank you! It means a lot to be able to work with and build such a passionate community in these isolating times. Since I won’t be able to use my piano for the next few weeks, this will be the grand finale to Year 6 of DS Music. I know y’all are waiting on that Top 10 Zelda Songs Medley, but we haven’t reached 10k subs yet! Maybe if we can hit that milestone, the grand opening to Year 7 will be that :D But for now, this is the last hurrah for the summer and I’m glad to have made this musical genre with all of you watching. Stay ready for MAHVEL baybee! Keep those mustaches curleh, DS *********************************************

An upload on a Tuesday? Well it may surprise you to hear, but I officially played piano for a track in an actual game! My speedrunning and musician buddy Zachary Talis asked me a while ago to play piano for a track he was writing for a new indie game called Nowhere New, so I happily jumped on-board! It's a very interesting looking game with a gritty sci-fi atmosphere, and I am all about that. Be sure to check out the game on Steam when it releases on July 15th! store.steampowered.com/app/1330800/Nowhere_New So happy to be a part of this project and definitely hope to be able to play piano for game OSTs in the future. #Minecraft #SpaceGirlStudios #OSTMinecraft - Rubedo [Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2020-06-27 | *********************************************************************** Another video within a week for the third time in a row? Nani?? When I heard that the Nether Update for Minecraft released just this week and that Lena Raine the tracks for it, I had to go and check out the new tunes! The Nether has some of my favorite tunes in Minecraft and Lena Raine is one of my favorite composers, and somehow the two blended together perfect! Lena definitely brought her A-game to make some music that was uniquely her own while meshing perfectly with the vibe of the Nether. This tune in particular sounded like a chilling combination of Ballad of the Cats from Minecraft mixed with Resurrections from Celeste, and since those are two of my favorite tracks in each game of course I had to cover this one! I decided to be a little experimental with this cover in order to try to capture the mood of the original track. So I added little automation on the reverb and a bit of "warbly piano" effects in order to sound closer to the source material and bring out that intimate yet forlorn mood that I love the Nether for. Hopefully you guys will enjoy it! This may be the last weekly cover for a while though, since I got a few big projects to tackle before summer ends. Top 10 Zelda Songs medley is in the works and I got a few other ideas for interesting covers... Don't dig straight down! DS ***********************************************************************

#Minecraft #NetherUpdate #LenaRaineStreet Fighter EX Plus Alpha - Precious Heart [Jazz Cover] (ft. @TheConsoulsBand) || DS MusicDS Music2020-06-20 | NOW OUT ON SPOTIFY AND EVERYWHERE: fanlink.to/precious_heart *********************************************************************** LET'S GO!!!!! Alright doods, today's upload is one heck of a doozy, and I can't be more excited to share it! In a way, this sorta feels like a big finale vid for Year 6 since this has been the mother of all collabs for me (as this year has been all about collabs ever since the Gates of Hell cover with Tyler Jenkins), but I'm still aiming to make more vids as long as I still have my piano this summer, so let's just call this a big crowd-rousing selection before the encore. So why this song from this Street Fighter spin off game of all covers? Well, just about a year ago (when I started Year 6 back last August), I had just gotten into watching Youtuber/streamer Maximillian Dood's content, and his vids and streams introduced me to the FGC along with all things Capcom. Especially during some of the hard times I faced at the end of the last year when I debated whether or not to still do Youtube, his vids always helped put a smile on my face and get me to keep "shining on" so in a way he inspired me to keep going with piano. To thank him for all his efforts, I wanted to do this cover of Youtube outro music, Precious Heart (Sakura's Theme) which is a DOOD-CERTIFIED bop! However, since this piece involves a small band, I had to go looking for another collaborator. And who else to approach for a jazzy fighting game song bop than the grooviest of lads, The Consouls? I've been listening to them for years, and since they especially have an interest in fighting game music, I thought it was worth it to attempt to reach out to them. In the biggest shock of this year, they readily accepted and had their parts ready in no time! I'm eternally grateful for all the support they've had for this video and I'm so honored to be able to play alongside them. Anyways, I'm so happy that this crossover of Infinity War proportions is finally out for y'all to see and I hope you guys enjoy it! That isn't it for content from me for this year though, so stay tuned for whatever the heck I have might think of doing for the next vid. The finale will hopefully be the Top 10 Zelda Songs Medley for the 10,000 subscriber special, so be sure to tell your friends so we can reach that milestone! Shine on doods, DS ***********************************************************************

[Twitch Highlights]DS Music2020-06-15 | *********************************************************************** Recorded live on Twitch: twitch.tv/ds_music So here's something new and experimental for the channel! In case y'all haven't seen me yap about it already, I stream some games for fun on Twitch in order to interact with y'all in chat. Recently my friend NC Cymphonies and I have been doing a series where we try to learn Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle, and so I compiled some of the best moments and did (too much) editing on it to make this highlight reel. If you like plenty of memes while watching two guys lose brain cells, this video is for you. Since this series will be ongoing, you should definitely give me a follow on Twitch in order to stay notified of when we'll be live again (along with the various other games I stream). We'll actually be doing Part 4 LATER TODAY so stay tuned for that! Anyways I hope y'all will enjoy this, let me know if you want to see more of this on the main channel or if I should migrate these to a separate Twitch highlights channel. Don't worry, there's still a cover video coming out on Saturday, and boy this one will be a doozy! #BBTag #BlazblueCrossTagBattle #BlazbluePersona 4 - Ill Face Myself [Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2020-06-13 | NOW OUT ON SPOTIFY AND EVERYWHERE: fanlink.to/face_myself *********************************************************************** I bet you NEVER SAW THIS COMING even if you did REACH OUT TO THE TRUTH So here's a little unexpected surprise! Even though I just posted a cover last week, I've been binging Persona 4 content like all of last week. I don't know why I got this sudden fascination, the only experience I've had with the title before is that I liked the song "Reach Out to the Truth" in Smash Bros and that the Persona 4 characters were fun to play in Blazblue Cross Tag Battle (along with my various Persona 5 music antics). However, I eventually came to love the quirky and wholesome vibe of the game, its presentation, its story (I've been watching too much of the Persona 4 anime lately oops), and of course its music. So when I heard the rumor that Persona 4 Golden is coming out on Steam today (remind me to edit this depending on what happens lol), I thought now was as good a time as ever to cover something from this game! I decided to pick the calm piano version of "I'll Face Myself" since I wanted to challenge myself to make a cover that was interesting and diverse while remaining completely in the realm of 'peaceful piano'. I managed to figure out how to get my soft pedal to work in the piano VST which gave it a lovely sound fitting of a calm and relaxing piano beat to study and relax to 24/7. Since this game is all about social links and the power of bonds, I'd like to give a special shout-out to all the collaborators I've worked with this year! Year 6 has definitely been the year of collabs, and I wouldn't have been able to make as many amazing large-scale covers if it weren't for the many other talented musicians I've worked with! Be sure to check out my newly made Collabs playlist in order to check out the videos I've invited others for as well as videos I've participated in. And speaking of collabs, I've got a BIG one coming out next week! This song will be a big (but not quite final) hurrah to a year of interesting twists and turns, so stay tuned for quite the surprise next week. Take care pianists, DS ***********************************************************************

#Persona4 #Persona4Golden #Person4AnimationKirbys Adventure - Butter Building [Piano Cover/Synthesia] (From the album Heroes) || DS MusicDS Music2020-06-06 | *********************************************************************** GET THE ALBUM HERE: http://smarturl.it/pmheroes P O Y O So as I've mentioned several times, I'm part of this little videogame music cover community called Pixel Mixers, and recently they put together this album "Heroes" in association with GameGrooves (a videogame music promoter) in order to benefit Child's Play Charity (http://childsplaycharity.org). The theme of the album was upbeat versions of classic videogame mascot tunes, so I thought what better tune for that than Butter Building? I've been wanting to cover this staple videogame song forever, as who doesn't love this iconic Kirbo ditty (or this cameo melody from the Super Smash Brothers Melee Opening)? I wanted to both keep some elements of the original simplistic style while also incorporating some of the wacky piano style from newer Kirby games. Watch out for plenty of left/right hand crossing, jazzy chords, and fast-paced whimsical piano licks! Sorry for no live video on this one, I recorded this during a wonky time so I had to record without video in order to get the finished product out by the deadline, but I'm pretty happy how the arrangement turned out! Hopefully y'all will enjoy the little Synthesia graphic I put in its place. And don't forget to check out the other songs on the album, many of which do have live video recordings of their performance! #PixelMixers #GameGrooves #KirbyEndless Space - Falling Night Stars [Piano & EWI Cover] (ft. @Soundole) || DS MusicDS Music2020-05-26 | *********************************************************************** hhh sorry for the late upload oof This week's cover is a request from longtime Patron Felipe Bastos! At first when he requested this song, I'd never even heard about Endless Space before, so of course I had to go and look up the soundtrack to this game and its sequel Endless Space 2. I actually connected to this OST in a surprising way: much of the music has this ambient electronica vibe that reminded me of this radio program I used to listen to as a kid called "Echoes: The Nightly Music Soundscape". With that in mind, I set out to create an arrangement that would capture both the game's journey of colonizing the stars along with the chill atmosphere of space. The arranging process was really interesting for this one since I had to figure out how to translate multiple synths and ambient aux percussion lines into a piano piece. It ended up sorta turning into this pseudo-three-handed piano ballad with lots of ostinatos jumping all over the keyboard (even across hands), sometimes two melodies running at the same time while being over an octave apart (thank goodness for having lanky fingers), and even the appearance of the wonderful EWI player @Soundole VGM Covers for the grand finale! Ever since I've seen him and Insaneintherain play EWI for their VGM covers on Youtube, I've been itching to find a good reason to include one in an arrangements. The sound matches perfectly with the synth in the original soundtrack and Soundole plays it beautifully, so make sure to check him out in the links below! Anyways, the next cover shouldn't be delayed at all since it's already completed, sorry again about the delay of today's vid. I'm so glad I've been able to do so many unique collabs with so many great musicians this year, and the collab hype train doesn't stop here! Take care and stay safe musicians, DS ***********************************************************************

#EndlessSpace2 #EWI #EndlessSpaceBanjo-Kazooie - Click Clock Wood [Jazz Piano Seasonal Medley] (From the album BUDDIES) || DS MusicDS Music2020-05-09 | *********************************************************************** Guh-huh! Looks like we got ourselves a bear and a bird hijacking this channel! I've wanted to do a Banjo-Kazooie cover for a looong time (ever since I mentioned it in some videos years ago that I don't even remember the title of) since it's such an iconic game with a memorable soundtrack to boot. Well, I finally got the opportunity to cover one of these fun little ditties in the new Materia Collective community Album "BUDDIES: A Tribute to Banjo-Kazooie" (see link below)! For this cover, I wanted to do more than just cover the piece. Click Clock Wood is a location known for changing both in aesthetic and in musical variations with the shifting seasons, so I decided to embody that by making different sections of the arrangement utilizing different jazz piano genres that match with each particular season! Spring is upbeat ragtime most like the original tune, summer is groovin' boogie-woogie with some hot flares, winter is a chill ballad with cool chord changes, and fall showcases all the changing colors of the arrangement. Hope you all enjoy these renditions of one of Grant Kirkhope's masterpieces! This video is basically 4 covers in 1 if you think about it, so you're getting all the bang for your buck. Some high-quality, 5-star covers are hopefully coming soon too, so be prepared for more piano treats to feast on! Take care, DS ***********************************************************************

I follow this VGM-cover-sharing site called GameGrooves which just last afternoon put out a #QuickfireCoverChallenge where they challenged artists to make a one-take cover in just 24 hours. Since my piano vids suit that criteria very nicely, I was wondering what song to pick and then remembered that I've been itching to play this tune! Ever since my cover of "Another Rain" from Halo 3: ODST came out (which has been absolutely exploding on Spotify thanks to you guys!), I've been looking for more opportunities to cover Halo soundtracks. A friend on a co-op I was working at suggested Warthog Run from Halo 3 (a tune very similar to this), and I'll probably come back and try my hand at that rendition sometime in the future! But for now, I decided to keep it basic and learn this iconic main theme. With less than a day to work on this, I'm pretty proud of how the end result came out! I'll still be releasing a video on Saturday, so stay tuned for that. It's been pretty crazy recently so get ready for some crazy music videos coming up! #Halo #HaloInfinite #HaloThemeFinal Fantasy X - Besaid Island [Piano Collections Arrangement] || DS MusicDS Music2020-04-25 | *********************************************************************** H A H A H A H A -Tidus, 2k01 Gee, I’ve been on a Final Fantasy hiatus for a while, even with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming out recently! Now that the current Pixel Mixers contest is a ‘battle of the elements’ theme, I decided to join Team Water and perform a piece that I’ve wanted to do for a long time, the Besaid Island arrangement from the Final Fantasy X Piano Collections. Ever since I first listened to this track, I was hooked by the rich colors and textures of the arrangement (definitely thanks to it being composed and arranged by one of my favorite composers, Masashi Hamauzu, who I also just found out composed the Final Fantasy VII Remake soundtrack!). While the source material is a bit unconventional and synth-y, this arrangement takes that tune and even more unconventionally turns it into a sea shanty sort of tune. I love how the melody is embedded beautifully in the sing-songy extra melodic lines that Hamauzu wrote in, along with how the harmonies and lines flow together like, well, water! I tried to touch up the arrangement too with my own bits of improv and phrasing. Hopefully you’ll be able to notice how I tried to use the dynamics in the second refrain to make it sound sort of like a conversation between Tidus and Yuna, along with how the dynamics and even tempo buck and sway like waves on the ocean. I’m probably getting ahead of myself with all this musicality mumbo-jumbo, but I really wanted to put my all into this interpretation (since I didn’t have to use any brain power to arrange the thing myself haha). Anyways, hopefully this time I don’t go on a Final Fantasy Piano Collections binge for months again, I got some more varied, relaxing, and spicy tunes coming up soon! While I was slowly turning into a Capcom fanboy right before all this nonsense hit, I was super hyped to finally try out Devil May Cry for the first time with the release of Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition on the Switch. It's definitely been kicking me around with its difficulty, but getting into the combat, action, and cutscenes has been a spectacle. I love both the head-banging metal tunes and the somber Gothic melodies that intertwine flawlessly. This tune combines a little of the main theme of the game, Devils Never Cry, while adding its own melancholic twist. Hope you enjoy this tune as much as I do! Stay Smokin' Sexy Stylish, DS

To celebrate another wonderful game release (after the memetastic Animal Crossing x Doom crossover for that release a while ago), I decided to cover a track from the game. This week's request is from Levi Bechtold, a wonderful fella who's been super supportive of the VGM community for years and I couldn't be happier to present this for him. I'm not the hugest Xenoblade fan, and this tune is definitely one of the more obscure ones from the OST. However, I could definitely hear the beautiful Yoko Shimomura flairs in the piece, so I wanted to try to encapsulate the hopeful/happy feeling of the best while trying to imitate how Shimomura-senpai might arrange this for solo piano. Still a gorgeous piece just like the rest of the soundtrack. Xenoblade Chronicles HD looks even more gorgeous, and I can't wait to see how the meme-tastic Wii graphics get upgraded. Make sure to check out patreon.com/DS394 to help support the music and get rewards from me in return! Once again back to the VGM classics! For this month's Pixel Mixers contest the theme was visual novels, so I thought what better OST to cover than the OG Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. This selection includes "Trial Begins", "Cross Examination ~ Moderato 2001", "Objection", and "Pursuit ~ Cornered" in both normal piano cover and piano duet format. Back in freshman year of college, one of the ways I bonded with new friends was by getting together and voice-acting through Ace Attorney along with appreciating all the memes along the way (it'd be a shame if I... UPDATED THE AUTOPSY REPORT). I wanted to pay tribute to the good times this game has given me by making a medley that captures both its drama (with some musical elements I took from the Ace Attorney 15th Anniversary Orchestra album) and its cheery good fun, and I hope you can catch those vibes too from the cover. Tracklist will be below in the comments soon, so make sure to check that out if you're looking for a certain song. Ever since I've started playing Dragon Ball FighterZ, I've been getting more into checking out the fighting game community as a whole. Tekken 7 is a staple of the genre, and its soundtrack is just as godlike as its gameplay. #Tekken7 #Evo2020 #Tekken7OSTResident Evil 2 - Save Room [Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2020-01-25 | *********************************************************************** Sliding into your subscription box faster than Mr. X gon give it you 👀 Sorry for the long wait since Gusty Garden Galaxy, but I'm finally back to make bi-weekly piano VGM content for y'all! This first upload might seem a bit weird of a genre for my channel, but hear me out: I've mentioned this group before, but I'm part of a VGM community called Pixel Mixers that does themed monthly contests. This month was "games with the same release year as your birth year". Being a huge Capcom fan myself (can't wait for Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition on Switch!), knowing that the OG Resident Evil 2 came out in 1998, and seeing all the hype for the Resident Evil 3 remake, I knew it was time to cover the iconic Save Room theme! For this cover, I wanted to do a little something extra than just the short tune that the original is. I expanded on it by trying to imitate the delay effects of the harp, adding some T H I C C Rachmaninoff-style chords and key changes, and incorporating some tid-bits of extra songs such as the Resident Evil 1 Save Room theme and even J-E-N-O-V-A from Final Fantasy 7 (another great PlayStation game with an amazing remake coming soon)! Hope you enjoy the spooky/relaxing vibe I tried to recreate with this cover. Anyways, stay tuned for more videos coming regularly once again! I got quite a few ideas to try out (as long as college doesn't get in the way). If you want this cover (or any of my other covers) to get distributed to iTunes and Spotify, make sure to let me know in the comments! Stay safe out there (and don't become a Jill sandwich), DS ***********************************************************************

#ResidentEvil2 #ResidentEvil3Remake #ResidentEvil2RemakeSuper Mario Galaxy - Gusty Garden Galaxy [Nostalgic Piano Cover] || DS MusicDS Music2019-12-21 | HAPPY SUPER MARIO 3D ALL STARS RELEASE DAY! Sheet music and Spotify links for this are now available! Check links below *********************************************************************** It's finally here! A nostalgic Nintendo classic, now with the DS Music piano flair! This is a piece that basically every Nintendo fan knows and has been oft requested for this channel (this time, my Patreon fellas actually voted on this song). I've barely played Super Mario Galaxy (tho I did play Super Mario Galaxy 2 to death tho. Loved the multiplayer!), but I still love the soundtrack so much. I wanted to make this arrangement mostly simple in order to capture the nostalgic happy feelings most people have towards this time in gaming, hence the 'nostalgic piano cover' title. The process had uhhh *quite a few road bumps*, but somehow against all odds it's finally out, so I hope you all enjoy the final product. Let me know if you guys would like me to upload this to Spotify and iTunes and whatnot! Now that it's an option for me, if I get enough requests on any song I can go and distribute it whenever. I'll also probably be taking a break from uploading for a bit. MAGFest is coming soon and I'll be there with a gig to boot! If you're also going, I'll provide some more info soon on what I'll be doing via Twitter and Community post so stay tuned! I gotta practice for that along with get more songs ready for when school inevitably starts again for me. Plus, for some reason my piano keys are starting to stick again so I don't want to have to record another piece with the E and F keys rubbing together :( That's all for now! Thank ya so much for a to watching my cover! Yahoooo! DS ***********************************************************************

#SuperMarioGalaxy #Mario #PianoUndertale - Bonetrousle [Piano Cover] (ft. my foot and nose) || DS MusicDS Music2019-12-13 | *********************************************************************** NYEH HEH HEH! You think this is a weird time to post spooky scary skeleton music? Well then, you've been bamboozled by the GREAT PAPYRUS! My fellow Youtube videogame pianist Erik C. Piano Man challenged me to make an arrangement of this a while ago, so I did and kept the recording for a later date. Because of this challenge, I tried to make this a bit more difficult than normal. That's why various sections of this are pretty bombastic and feature some odd guests such as a faceplant into the piano to hit a certain note and also a bassline played by my small toe (which I actually 'quoted' from this Bonetrousle cover: youtube.com/watch?v=WTxD5zOxw10). However, since I sadly didn't get to finish the newest cover I'm working on by now, I decided to pull this up from my backups and share it with you guys today! Hope y'all enjoy it as much as Papyrus enjoys spaghetti. Stay spooky friends, DS ***********************************************************************

#BreathoftheWild #BreathoftheWild2 #SoundropLegend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Guardian Battle [Metal Cover] (ft. Ro Panuganti) || DS MusicDS Music2019-11-29 | WHO'S HERE AFTER THE HYRULE WARRIORS: AGE OF CALAMITY TRAILER? LET'S GOOO *********************************************************************** WARNING: Some listeners may have PTSD and/or flashbacks triggered from the first few piano notes. Viewer discretion is advised. For real though, you guys have been requesting this for literally *years*, and finally as my Thanksgiving special for y'all here's the biggest, baddest, and most head bang worthy cover of the Guardian Battle Theme from Breath of the Wild for y'all to enjoy! This cover has literally been requested for years, and I've had basic ideas for this arrangement ever since high school! I didn't think that just a normal piano cover would be fitting for this blood-raising battle theme, so something more upbeat and hard-hitting was called for IMO. However, I couldn't find someone to collab with for the longest time until just recently. So far this year I've collabed with so many more people than before, each of them blowing me away with what they send me, and each of them helping me to do arrangements that I never would've dreamed could be possible in the past. However, by far this has been one of my favorite collabs, and I couldn't have asked to work with anyone more talented then the one and only Ro Panuganti. IDK how this man does it, Ro's basically a cornerstone of the VGM with all the covers he makes, all the events he runs, and how much he pushes the boundaries to VGM cover and video production. He's definitely been an inspiration for me, so it was surreal when he accepted the collab and even offered to do so much more than I had asked for him! I couldn't have been more happy with how this turned out with Ro's guidance on it. So I hope you enjoy this big hurrah for the end of November, for the next month it'll mostly be easier more chill covers for me as I prepare to do a short gig at MAGFest in January! Hope y'all had a happy Thanksgiving and don't die during Black Friday plz. As for me, I'll be sticking to Cyber Monday deals. Seeya later pianists and metalheads, DS ***********************************************************************
