Gym & Chat | BookCon Edition Dee 2017-06-07 | BookCon, or any con for that matter, could be overwhelming for newbies. I know, you have a million questions. And being that this is my third time covering this event, I filmed some hopefully helpful information in between sets at the gym just for you. I hope this information is helpful in any! I did fail to mention a lot of the book sellers do accept credit cards, but not everyone does. Also, Javits Center does have a food court and a few Starbucks. The prices are reasonable for the area. They really are. I also failed to mention that one of the best and worst things are the lines. Worst because they are long and you wait 47,000 years. But best because you could turn to your neighbor and possibly have one of the best book conversations you've ever had. Which was my case. I met SO many wonderful people on line, and I loved everyone one of you. Thank you for taking time to entertain my chatty butt!An honorable mention goes to @MarissaReads. BookCon 2017 | Final Thoughts Dee 2017-06-05 | BookCon 2017 is over, and I am both depressed and happy. Depressed, because it was two full days of spending time among my people, bookie nerds that understand the definition of book boyfriend/girlfriend. And now it's all over. Happy, because I am physically exhausted.Before I walked out of the Javits Center, I took a few moments to put some quick final thoughts.I will be filming a longer vlog with details on the incompetence for the Penguin Random House staff. IBS NYC 2017 Dee 2017-03-13 | This was our third year attending IBS NYC, and this year we celebrated 100 years of beauty. If you've never been, this show is MASSIVE! Two huge convention rooms at the Javits Center. One side it's all beauty, hair, salon, and nails. The other, is all aesthetics and spa. Every year we go with an agenda to hit as many brands as possible. This year, we just decided to show up and just see what trouble we could get into. After years of covering the same event, you learn about what brands to trust and who you know it's a scheme. As a public service announcement, a good portion of those no name flat irons, are all garbage. They don't sell you the item they demo with. It's easy to google and find that out for yourself. Of course this is a trade show for beauty professionals. Yes brands attend and all that jazz. BUT majority of sellers are manufactures of salon equipment; ie. tables, chairs, lamp, supplies, uniforms, etc... Another huge part of this show is education. Whether it's business practices, learning new techniques to incorporate into your work, and even getting licenses for special procedures. There is a hands-on workshop for everyone. We attended Eve Pearls class, Flawless Face - Brides of all Ages. Makeup Artists Renny Vasquez and Kamila Bravo made an appearance. Of course, I vlogged as much as I could to share it with you. #FitFriday | Chest & Back Superset Dee 2017-03-10 | It's Finally Friday! What a long week, but that's ok. The weekend is the perfect time to grab some weights and work on your gains. And just in time Jim and I put together a Chest & Back Superset just for you. What is a Superset? A superset is when you combine two different exercises without rest between them. Let's recap.-Stretch & Warm Up: Angels, Pull Ups, and Push Ups-Superset #1: Incline Dumbbell Presses & Reverse Grip Pull Downs-Superset #2: Flat Barbell Press & Seated Rows-Superset #3: Flat Single Arm Alternating Press & Single Arm Bent Rows-Superset #4: Chest Machine Flys & Rows to failureEach of these moves should be repeated about 12-15 times. And to start, you should repeat each Superset twice. This is my favorite way of working out because while your resting one area, you are working on another, and back and forth. But in the spirit of sharing my Meal Prep with you, here we go!I try to keep everything I make pretty simple. Not a lot of condiments or ingredients but with tons of flavor. This is what I used: -2 packs of boneless Thighs-Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ Sauce-Adobo-Sea Salt There's nothing much to it, but to toss all the ingredients over the chicken and bake it on each side for 15 minutes at 375. Protein Pancakes Dee 2017-02-27 | Last week, during my Homegoods Haul, I promised to share how I make my protein pancakes. So that's exactly what I am doing today. HURRAY! They are pretty simple. Nothing really to them, but this is what you'll need: -1/2 a cup of Kodiak Cakes-1/4 cup of vanilla Slap Nutrition protein, or your favorite protein in any flavor you like-1 cup of water (could have used a bit less but I went with it)Unlike regular pancakes, this batter is a bit watery. But that's ok they cook up nicely. I just topped with one egg and some honey. They were soooo good! There are times, I add some vanilla or hazelnut extract, to spice it up. #FitFriday Weather Break In February Dee 2017-02-24 | Could y'all believe that last weekend it was in the 60's?!It was glorious to have such an amazing weather break in February. Usually we are freezing our butts here in the northeast. And suffering from horrible cabin fever. I will admit, this winter has been mild. So, no I am not complaining at all. Is just 60°F?! These brushes are SO soft!I did talk to a former Royal employee and she said the brushes were designed to be super flexible. Also, you could bend them half to the back and half to the front and nothing will happen. Of course, I tried it and she was right! Still, I'll like the large brush to be a bit stronger. I’m actually really surprised how much I liked them and I really liked how my contour came out. It looked natural. I love that! #FitFriday | Biceps 101 Dee 2016-12-16 | It's official, here's our first #FitFriday video, and we are starting with biceps! Women tend to have stronger legs that men and in most cases prefer working them over upper body. I know leg day is my favorite day. So I figured we could start with the muscles that women tend to neglect, biceps. No ladies, don't be afraid of weights or working your arms. You will not start looking like a guy.stead, you start getting leaner and looking toned. "The biceps is a muscle on the front part of the upper arm. The biceps includes a “short head” and a “long head” that work as a single muscle. The biceps is attached to the arm bones by tough connective tissues called tendons." -WebMDDisclaimer: Sorry we looked like crap. We were actually working out that day. And boy am I glad smell-o-vision is not a thing. After two hours of heavy sweating, it's wasn't pretty. How I lost 130lbs! Dee 2016-12-02 | This is probably the hardest blog I've ever done in my seven years. Why? Because I am opening up myself to the public. That's scary. Specially about something so personal, my weight lost story. The health and fitness community could be very supportive, but it could also be very cruel. And everyone has an opinion. So to expose myself that way, terrorizes me. Even as I am writing this, I feel jittery.So why did I take this step? I made up my mind after I had an experience at the gym. Because of my success, I usually get asked to be part of my gym's, CKO Kickboxing Hoboken, photo shoots. That day we happened to be taking pictures and clowning around because this is how my squad rolls. We are all clowns. Accross from me was a beautiful voluptuous girl and she looked sad and defeated. She actually was sitting there crying and broken. I've been her. I know what it is to feel as if your not worth a penny because of the way you look. I've been there. I've lived it. She told me, "I am so disappointed with myself because I know I can do more." So I sat with her. I cried with her. I smiled with her. And then we got up and we kicked and punched a bag together.In that moment, I made up my mind to share this crazy roller coaster with everyone. I don't want to inspire you. I want to show you that you can do it because I am doing it.So with tons of nerves, here it goes, how I lost 130lbs.It's taken me close to four years to get here naturally and gradually. I've walked through snow, rain, and woken up at the crack of dawn on the weekends to achieve my goal of being healthy.I used to dream of being able to do half the things I am currently working on at the gym. And I am proud to say, they are now a reality. I can leg press 675lbs. I can now hip thrust 225. I can fly through the air and land a flying front kick. Me? A person that used to get winded walking down the block. It's mesmerizing and half the time I ask myself, am I really doing this? Yes, yes I am!
