Junior Julia Dieter has been named a 2026 Truman Scholar, a selective and prestigious award from the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation given to a small number of outstanding students pursuing public service careers nationwide.
A native of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, Dieter is an honors student studying public affairs with an American civics minor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
“The resources that UT has given me, the community it’s given me, has just allowed me to evolve into this person,” Dieter says. “It’s really given me a voice and shown me the kind of leader I can be.”
Dieter plans to build a career in education policy after graduation. As a Truman Scholar, she’ll receive funding for graduate studies and special professional opportunities within the federal government.
In the meantime, she’s getting hands-on experience at UT.
