What if the future of aerospace maintenance could be delivered from inside the engine itself?
At the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre (UTC) in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology, we are developing intelligent engineering solutions that are transforming how complex aerospace systems are inspected, maintained and repaired.
In this introduction, Professor Dragos Axinte, Director of the Rolls-Royce UTC in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology, highlights our pioneering research into advanced robotic systems — including some of the world’s most slender multi-degree-of-freedom robots and miniaturised tools capable of operating in challenging, confined environments.
With robotic systems reaching several metres in length while maintaining millimetre-scale access and precision, our technologies enable teleoperated inspection, material removal and additive processes directly within aeroengines.
Supported by more than 60 granted international patents and a strong track record of internationally recognised research, the UTC continues to bridge advanced engineering science with real-world industrial impact.
