Offered through USU Salt Lake, the Corrections Leadership Development Program strengthens leadership skills and enhances the management capabilities of correctional employees across the state.
The program now features more than 120 graduates since its inaugural class in 2024 — featuring UDC staff and officers from Logan to St. George — with each receiving continuing education credits, a certificate, and a challenge coin emblazoned with USU and UDC, emphasizing the partnership.
The Correctional Leadership Development Program offers 160 hours of instruction across four week-long modules. Addressing contemporary corrections challenges through a progression of leadership philosophies, decision-making frameworks, and organizational culture strategies, the curriculum includes topics such as critical incident management, ethics, and media relations to help participants confidently navigate the complexities of leadership roles within the corrections field.
The program is now set to expand with the addition of Salt Lake Police Department and Utah State University Police in upcoming cohorts.
