The Southern Seas 2026 Deployment
While making its way to the Atlantic coast, the carrier has been acting as the flagship for Southern Seas 2026, a multinational maritime operation managed by U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command / U.S. 4th Fleet. The mission focuses on strengthening security partnerships and building interoperability with regional allies.
Recent Operations: The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group has been operating heavily in the Caribbean region, hosting high-level government and military delegations from Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada to witness flight demonstrations and shipboard capabilities.
Current Status: As of June 2026, the carrier is completing its final overseas port call in Kingston, Jamaica, engaging in community outreach and bilateral exchanges before heading north to its final destination in Virginia.
The Final Horizon: The U.S. Navy extended the service life of the Nimitz to March 2027. Once it arrives at Naval Station Norfolk, it will undergo the extensive process of deactivation and decommissioning.
