This video shows aircraft from the USS Hancock launching and flying over Luzon in late 1944. The Hancock, an aircraft carrier, and its fighter and torpedo bombers, were heavily involved in assaults on Japanese-held airfield in Luzon in preparation for the "jump" of Allied forces from Leyte to Mindoro in December 1944. The assaults that were carried out included raids against Japanese airfields in Lipa, Calingatan, Malvar and Batangas Town; and it is possible that the terrain showed in this video was over the vicinity of any of these airfields. There are, however, no distinguishable landmarks to indicate this. The video was originally downloaded from the United States National Archives, condensed, reordered and enhanced using video editing software. Video quality is generally fair to good. There is no audio.
