At the AHF we have a range of realistically weighted synthetic and steel training swords for the practice of spadroon, however, many people have asked whether you can use sport sabres for the practice of spadroon. They are cheap, readily available and do not require high levels of protective equipment. Sporft sabres are also light and straight cut and thrust blades and so in theory can fill in for the spadroon.

We are using size 5 Leon Paul sabres. Follow up videos with discussion of this topic will follow based on our findings. In short, they are not a perfect tool, but are absolutely useable and in spite of some disadvantages, they do have to interesting and useful benefits during certain training practices.
