Using rbd Migration Tooling in Our Ceph Operations - Daniel Radjenovic, DigitalOcean

At DigitalOcean, our block storage product is backed by multiple Ceph clusters, with nearly every region having more than 1 cluster. This introduces a number of unique challenges in moving data (specifically, RBD images) between clusters while many customers are actively doing I/O to their image. In this talk, we'll discuss why multiple clusters are used, the tooling we built to move data both live and offline, and the service that helps run all these migrations. Time-permitting, we'll review the upstack layers involved and the challenges we had to overcome to build the migration tooling.
