I illustrate how to use nested IF commands in Excel (2016; but should work in all others) to transform string/worded data into coded numerals automatically.

Command used: =IF(B2="White";1;IF(B2="Black";2;IF(B2="Indian";3;IF(B2="Hispanic";4;IF(B2="Asian";5;IF(B2="Other";6;0))))))
