Dieter K Mulitze began his university studies in mathematics and computer science at the University of Waterloo, Canada, later switching to the University of Guelph to complete a BSc in Crop Science. While in the department, Dieter developed a wheat breeding software system on the IBM mainframe computer. Dieter then completed his PhD from the University of Saskatchewan in plant breeding and quantitative genetics in 1983, where he also developed a software system for all the Crop Development Centre’s plant breeding programs. His doctoral thesis was on estimating the number of genes in quantitative traits using computer simulation and data from bread wheat crosses. After a postdoc with ICARDA in Aleppo, Syria, Dr Mulitze was appointed assistant and then associate professor, University of Nebraska, in cereal breeding, 1986-1990. Dr Mulitze founded Agronomix Software in 1990, and since then has had the privilege of training plant breeders around the world in using AGROBASE, now used in plant breeding and variety testing programs in over 40 countries. As founder and CEO of Agronomix Software, Dr Mulitze looks forward to the adoption globally of Genovix, the company’s completely rebuilt plant breeding and variety testing software.
