When tools like DALL·E and Stable Diffusion began creating images from text, researchers asked: Could the same concept apply to generating clinically accurate chest X-rays? Led by Curtis Langlotz, MD, PhD, and Akshay Chaudhari, PhD, they developed RoentGen — an open AI model that produces realistic synthetic X-rays from medical descriptions. These images fill data gaps, reduce bias, protect privacy, and support education and training. RoentGen will allow researchers worldwide to accelerate progress and create new solutions that improve healthcare for all.
