I learned this technique from the amazing Mary Ray when I first got into dog training. A target stick with food can be such a great tool, especially for someone who can’t move or bend to train a trick. It’s also great for physical therapy and canine fitness where you’re having to do lots of repetitions of moving to put a treat on the ground. Someone was recently asking how I trained the dog trick of halo facing out and turning around me in a previous video and this is how I did it with a target stick with food in it initially. Check out the full length tutorial of how to train your dog to follow a target stick and fade it so that your dog can do tricks without the stick afterwards. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XqT9GtUs6nM
