Thistle is starting to bloom at higher elevations now and just the first few blooms bring the swallowtails and bees right in like a magnet. Thistle seeds also provide food for birds like finches in the winter. If your lucky and have wild thistle growing in the Backyard usually along a border between "yard" and forest or thick brush you can adjust it to your needs. Also, if you just look out for it when you let your Backyard grow out you'll probably find some thistle appears so let some of it grow and enjoy the bounty it offers.
