There is a gun sitting under the Apache's nose and it has barely changed in 40 years but in 2026 it became the most important weapon on the aircraft. This is the M230: a single-barrel, 30-millimeter chain gun that runs on a 3-horsepower electric motor, it fires about 10 rounds a second, and points right wherever the pilot's eyes are looking. Despite what some people might tell you, It is not a Gatling gun, it isn't a new gun at all. It's a new round the XM1225 APEX, a proximity-fuzed 30-millimeter shell that senses a drone as it passes and bursts beside it, turning a near miss into an extermination without changing a single part of the gun that fires it.
