Top seed Alexander Zverev said his French Open breakthrough has only Fuelled his hunger for further Grand Slam glory as he prepares to kick off his US Open campaign.
Reflecting on his past in New York, the German admitted his painful 2020 final loss still lingers, but winning his maiden major in Paris has shifted his mindset.
"I still feel like I should have won in 2020. That doesn't change," Zverev said. "But in general, of course there's some level of satisfaction for me that I finally won one. Once you win one, you want to win more."
Despite holding the top seed status in Flushing Meadows, Zverev brushed off its significance, insisting the ultimate goal remains the trophy: "Seedings are nice, but the most important thing is whose name is at the end of the draw and who is still here in two weeks' time."
Addressing Carlos Alcaraz's return from a long-term injury lay-off, Zverev offered a player's perspective on the Spaniard's chances: "I expect him to be maybe a bit rusty the first or second match, but once he gets through that, I think he's going to be a contender for sure here."
