US Military plane disguised as Philippine aircraft in the Yellow Sea during surveillance mission

National Security Adviser Hermohenes Esperon Jr. made his remark following reports of US surveillance aircraft disguised as a Philippine plane using hex codes belonging to a Philippine aircraft while conducting surveillance missions in the Yellow Sea.

"The possibilities are they could be trying really the capacity of China to (react). Just imagine, the incident happened in the Yellow Sea, which is between Korea and China. It is an area where we don't usually go," Esperon said.

The incident was initially reported by Aircraft Spots on September 22, and tweeted “USAF RC-135S 61-2663 GASP47 conducted a mission over the Yellow Sea on a miscoded Mode-S code 75C75C.”

Similarly, on September 23, the South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative, a Beijing-based think tank, reported that a US aircraft RC-135s was spotted carrying a Philippine aircraft hex code #75C75C in the Yellow Sea which was later changed back to the original after the mission was completed.

SCS Probing Initiative on Twitter said, "On Sep 22, USAF RC-135S (#AE01D6) conducted a #YellowSea mission with a spoofed hex code #75C75C, which was changed back to the original one after the mission was completed.”

Meanwhile, as of October 1, Esperon said that they still don’t have an update concerning the incident and that they are yet to get the reaction of the US Embassy in Manila.
