A US Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a man on 10 October, approximately 30 miles off Longboat Key, Florida following Hurricane Milton. The aircrew brought the man to Tampa General Hospital for further care after he was found clinging to a cooler wearing a life jacket at approximately 1:30 pm local time. The man had gone out to his boat to make repairs and was caught in the storm overnight. At least 11 people died as Hurricane Milton sent tornadoes spinning across Florida. The storm also caused widespread flooding and left some three million homes and businesses without power.
