Tips for improvisation:
► I suggest starting with the E minor pentatonic and bending the minor 7th (D) towards the root (E) on the E chord. When playing the minor third (G), you can bend it a little towards the major third (G#) or pull of to the major second (F#) (especially to the D chord). You can always end your licks on the root (E).
► Another approach would be to start with the E major pentatonic and then play with the major 2nd (F#), minor 3rd (G) and major 3rd (G#). Here, too, the change from the minor 7th (D) to the root (E) is a good idea.
► An advanced approach would be to play the entire Mixolydian scale.
► Notes / Chords in E Mixolydian:
1: E -- Root
2: F#m -- Major 2nd
3: G# dim -- Major 3rd
4: A -- Perfect 4th
5: Bm -- Perfect 5th
6: C#m -- Major 6th
b7: D -- Minor 7th
