National Weather Service Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp explains: An increasing severe weather threat is expected today, with numerous severe storms likely developing this afternoon and evening along and east of the James River. The main risks are large hail up to baseball size, and damaging winds to 70 mph. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out with some of these storms.
