A little less than a year ago, a friend of mine told me about some 12/4 oak that was going to be hauled out to the dumpster. There were several pieces that were bolted together as part of a delivery of construction material being used in a renovation project. Shortly after bringing it to the shop, I decided to cut a piece up to see what it looked like on the inside. The wood was under a lot of internal stress and was difficult to cut through it. Some of it was really beautiful on the inside, but it was no wonder that it was used as 'crate' material. I held on to the wood, nevertheless, until I could figure out what to do with the wood. Eventually I was commissioned to create a set of 2 and a set of 4 candlesticks for a church. And so one of the beams found a new home. A simple and rustic design was perfect for this reclaimed wood project.
