Bernie and Ruth aimed for success in the world of finance and Wall Street, aspiring to escape the harsh New York winters by settling in Palm Beach, Florida, known for its exclusivity.
They purchased a home in Palm Beach and joined the Palm Beach Country Club, which, unlike some other clubs, accepted both Jewish and non-Jewish members, making it a popular choice for Jewish families.
Palm Beach's social scene, including the Country Club, played a significant role in their lives, requiring active participation in fundraising events, a major aspect of the community.
The significance of charitable contributions was emphasized when joining the club, with a substantial fee of $300,000, showcasing commitment and support.
The move to Palm Beach became a strategic choice for Bernie Madoff, providing an exclusive platform to attract new investors, capitalizing on the restricted membership policy for Jews in the club.
Palm Beach's reputation as a fundraising hub, especially for Jewish causes, influenced Bernie's decision to settle there, highlighting the importance of social connections and financial networks in his investment schemes.

The Wolf of Wall Street - Steve Madden Scene. The Wolf of Wall Street is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving cr...
Jordan Belfort, a former stockbroker and motivational speaker, gained notoriety for his role in securities fraud and money laundering schemes. His experiences were chronicled in the self-authored book The Wolf of Wall Street, later adapted into a film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio.
During the 1990s, Belfort established Stratton Oakmont, a brokerage firm specializing in penny stocks. The company employed aggressive and unethical methods to manipulate stock prices, defrauding investors and yielding substantial illicit profits.
In his early 40s at the time, Madden found himself entangled in the financial scandal known for the pump and dump schemes orchestrated by the firm Stratton Oakmont. This notorious episode is recognizable to those familiar with Martin Scorseses film, The Wolf of Wall Street. Describing his involvement, Madden shares in his upcoming memoir, The Cobbler: How I Disrupted an Industry, Fell From Grace, & Came Back Stronger Than Ever (published by Radius Book Group, priced at $27 and set for release on Oct. 13), how he willingly participated in flipping stocksโbuying and selling shares on the day of a companys initial public offering to swiftly generate profits ranging from twenty to forty thousand dollars, which he could then reinvest in the business. He co-authored the memoir with Jodi Lipper.
