The Reconstruction of Indian Alchemical Procedures : An interview with Prof. Dagmar Wujastyk and Andrew Mason.
The AyurYog project examines the historical connections between the South Asian disciplines of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Indian alchemy. The alchemical tradition is the least well-known of these. To bring this important historical discipline to people's attention, we have translated a number of Indian alchemical works from their original Sanskrit. The oldest of the Indian alchemical texts is a work called "The Heart of Mercury" (Rasahrdayatantra). It gives a comprehensive overview over Indian alchemical practice and describes a program of eighteen alchemical procedures for making mercurial elixirs. To gain a deeper understanding of this text's contents, we started an experiment: A reconstruction of the described procedures. We have documented this in a series of short films, which we are presenting here on the Ayuryog YouTube channel.
