Make your player's defeat look professional! In Part 24 of the Unreal Engine 5 Tutorial Series, we complete our health system by implementing a dramatic death sequence using Ragdoll Physics.
You will learn how to transition your character from a controlled animation state to a physics-simulated ragdoll when health reaches zero. Weโll cover disabling player movement, triggering physics on the skeletal mesh, and using custom events to bridge the gap between taking damage and dying. We also take a moment to "polish" our fire hazard with particle effects and keep our Blueprints professional with organized comments!

In this Ragdoll and Death tutorial, we cover:
- Custom Death Events: Creating the logic to handle player defeat.
- Disabling Movement: Stopping player input once health reaches zero.
- Ragdoll Physics: Changing collision presets and enabling "Simulate Physics" on skeletal meshes.
- The Death Loop: Using Delays and the "Destroy Actor" node to trigger a level restart.
- Conditional Logic: Using "Less Than or Equal To" checks for health values.
- Level Polishing: Adding fire and smoke particle Blueprints to our hazards.
- Blueprint Organization: Using Comments and Reroute nodes for clean, readable code.
