Did you know the 2015 Steam Controller had a hidden secret inside?
In this video, I explain how Valve's original hardware actually included a dormant Nordic nRF51822 chip capable of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) from day one! A firmware update in 2018 finally unlocked this feature, letting us connect it to more than just a PC.
I’m taking advantage of this "secret" feature to pair the controller with an ESP32-S3 microcontroller, turning it into a high-precision, haptic-feedback controller for my DIY RC car project.

![[USB-Serial] Android Phone + ESP32-LoRa Module + Chat App = Text Transceiver!
Overview:
This project combines an Android chat app with an ESP32-based LoRa module to enable the wireless transmission of short messages. The Android app provides a user-friendly interface for sending and receiving messages, while the LoRa module facilitates long-range communication between the app and physical devices.
Workflow:
1. Android app establishes USB-Serial connection with ESP32 module.
2. Messages are sent from the app to the ESP32 module via USB-Serial.
3. ESP32 module transmits the messages wirelessly using LoRa.
4. Received messages are forwarded from the ESP32 module to the recipients app via USB-Serial.
5. Messages are displayed to the recipient.
Benefits:
- Long-range communication capability
- Low power consumption for extended device operation
- Internet-independent communication
This project enables wireless short message transmission by integrating an Android chat app with an ESP32-based LoRa module, offering users a convenient way to communicate over long distances without relying on internet connectivity.

![A new way to configure e-Paper screen! Seeed Studio reTerminal E1001,(SenseCraft HMI + ESP32-S3)
Meet the reTerminal E1001 from Seeed Studio—an ESP32-S3 e-paper device that you can turn into a smart display without writing code. In this video I set up Wi-Fi, pair it to SenseCraft HMI, and build real screens using the Canvas editor and the AI Generator (menus, quotes, weather, photo album, and more).
What I cover
- 7.5 B/W model (and the 7.3 color option)
- 3-month battery design: deep sleep; wakes only to refresh/download
- No-code screen building with SenseCraft HMI (Canvas + AI Generator)
- Photo album demo (instant deploy), quotes that auto-update, and a weather template
- Page cycling, manual refresh button, and SD card for multiple screens
- Real-world usability: fast B/W refresh (two quick flickers) and surprisingly nice photo rendering
Why it’s interesting
- No firmware flashing needed for everyday layouts
- AI drafts the UI; you just tweak placement and publish
- Great for home/office signage, café menus, dashboards, and photo frames
Key specs & notes
- ESP32-S3 inside, Wi-Fi/BLE, internal battery
- Sleep-first design; updates on demand or on interval (as low as ~5 minutes)
- Black-and-white panel refreshes faster than color
If you want a clean, always-on e-paper display you can actually live with on a desk or counter, this one’s a strong pick. Enjoy!

![2023 New ESP32Berry Project, The base UI & ChatGPT Client
It is not easy to configure a screen based on MCU and receive input from many human interface devices. Still, its really fun to implement these one by one. Id like to work with people who are interested in this project. After forking it from my ESP32Berry repository, you can modify and add new features as you like. No doubt that it can be a great project if you share them back to the mainstream.

![ESP32-P4 Grid Board: BLE Text UI on a 10.1 Display (LVGL + Flutter App)
In this project, I built a clean and interactive 12×5 grid system on a 10.1 display using the ESP32-P4 Nano from Waveshare. The system displays up to 60 characters on screen and is controlled wirelessly through a Flutter-based mobile app via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
The UI is powered by LVGL, complete with card-style animation effects and sound feedback to enhance the user experience.
This project demonstrates how capable the ESP32-P4 is, especially when paired with a high-resolution display and optimized graphics. Text input is sent directly from an iPhone/Android app, and characters animate as they fall into place.
This entire project is open source — including both firmware and mobile app code — and available on GitHub.
Tech Stack:
ESP32-P4 (Waveshare Nano)
LVGL 9 for UI and animations
Flutter for mobile app (BLE support)
Power usage:
With the brightness set to 100%, the system consumes about 830 mA at 5V (~4.2W), allowing it to run for ~2.2–2.3 hours on a 3000 mAh power bank.

![[Part. 2] ESP32 Local Map Project! #tech #gps #esp32
This is an early demo of my ongoing project to create an offline GPS map viewer using the ESP32. Inspired by a similar Raspberry Pi and E-Paper build, this version aims to load map tiles from an SD card and display the current GPS location—completely without internet. Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses!

![No camera — but it knows exactly where you are
No camera. No light. This little board still knows where youre standing — and it gives you real X/Y coordinates for up to 3 people at once.
Its an HLK-LD2450: a 24GHz mmWave radar with one transmit and two receive antennas on a 44 × 15 mm board. It streams target positions over UART to an ESP32-S3, which plots them live on a 4.2 reflective LCD — no backlight, so it actually gets easier to read in direct sunlight.
Honest verdict after a day of outdoor testing: distance tracking is solid, but side-to-side movement is weak. Thats physics, not a bad part — Doppler radar only measures motion toward or away from the sensor, so walking across the beam looks like standing still. Still plenty good for presence, wake-on-approach, and automatic lighting.
More tests coming. What should I try next?
