Today thirty girls have just experienced our annual Girls in Games workshop at Media Design School.
“The more diverse people who are making games are, the more diverse the games are going to become,” says Tece Bayrak, Senior Lecturer Visual Creative Technologies.
"This is a good environment for girls to check their abilities," says Dr Samah Hassan Aly Abd El Maksoud, Learning Facilitator Game Programming.
For the past eight years, Media Design School has been facilitating these free workshops for teenage girls. The all-female crew volunteer their time and use this safe space to showcase gaming as a viable career for these young women who want to learn and want to understand.
“We first need to give them opportunities; we need to open more doors for them,” Samah says.
Girls in Games is increasingly becoming one of the most important projects to get new students and communities engaged with the Media Design School. The next edition takes place in November.
