The biggest issue with Shaky-Sand has been that it generally is not off or unload safe. That means if you left the area, the machine might break when you come back, and turning it off before you left meant that you would need to manually replant when you turn it back on. I am happy to report that is no longer an issue as with this new technique you can turn off the Shaky-Sand, and when you come back you can turn it back on without needing to replant the sand. That makes Shaky-Sand 100% Fully Automatic without needing any player interaction to turn off or on... or will let you control the entire farm with just one redstone input.
I came up with this technique while talking with someone on Discord who had come up with their own way of making off-safe Shaky-Sand. Their version is not one wide tilable (as of this video, but they are working on something), but it does work with Cactus. My design is Bamboo and Sugar Cane only.
