How is this for some Way Back Wednesday? This video footage is from about 23 years ago when a very young (and skinny) Unleaded Logic started getting his feet wet with playing out live.
There are so many memories here to unpack, but seeing me work the turntables here makes me think of the weekly record store runs and all the practice and lessons associated with mixing, counting beats, and eventually learning to mix in key. There were lots of good friends and lots of great memories. I took way too many things happening in this footage for granted back then. I wish I had focused more on the positives because I learned so much during these times.
The first bit of footage is me mixing on my home setup in my parent's basement with a few friends. I see my meters on my mixer just smashing in the red zone. Hey, if you ain't redlining, you ain't headlining. ;)
The second bit of footage is from an event that a few friends and I put together at a roller rink. We spent so much time putting things together for this event; ultimately, the turnout was so-so. Still, the amount of stuff I learned from doing something like this would pay huge dividends later.
It's incredibly ironic to hear me play tracks from Intensify, Way Out West's new album at the time. I still love those tracks, and I just recently got to remix Mindcircus off the album.
It's very full circle.
