The economic growth of the 1920s comes to a screeching halt in 1929 with the crash of the stock market. What caused the Great Depression? While most historians and economists still grapple with this question, we will examine some of the more obvious causes. What were the effects of the Great Depression? Bank failures, high unemployment, environmental catastrophe (Dust Bowl), and the Bonus Army. How did President Herbert Hoover (The Great Humanitarian) handle the crisis? Was his belief in American exceptionalism and Rugged Individualism enough to rescue the millions of struggling Americans?
