Commissioned to celebrate the beginning of the space age, the Unisphere was conceived and constructed as the theme symbol of the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair. Arriving at the Queens museum on an extremely cold January day, it took my breath away as I caught my first real glimpse of the iconic Unisphere. It's visible from nearly everywhere in the park. It's kinda like walking into Walt Disney Worlds Epcot. Epcot itself was heavily influenced by the Worlds fair and was where Walt Disney himself got a chance to test out some of his new ideas. It's surreal standing in front of this legendary icon. I felt like I was transported back in time, thinking what it must have been like to experience all the pavilions and energy from this amazing place. I felt wondrously childlike, similar to how I feel when I walk into Walt Disney World. This time lapse sunset of the Unisphere captures the serenity of peace on Earth all while spurring new ideas of the future... ENJOY!
