In 2024, Crystal Dynamics unveiled Unified Lara. This is a version of the character intended to combine all of the iterations that came before her. She somehow embodies the motivations, history and characteristics of the original Core Design Lara, the LAU Lara and the Survivor trilogy Lara.
That sounds great on paper, but if we stop and think about it for a second, we quickly realise that's impossible. In this video, I explore why the three Crofts are fundamentally incompatible. We'll discuss the conflicting fates of their parents, their varying mentors and their wildly different motivations to prove that combining them back into one character is simply impossible.
We'll also question whether Unified Lara is a brand-new fourth Lara, triggering yet another reboot, or if this is simply the continuation of Survivor Lara's story. There's evidence to support both theories, after all.
