The main thing I forgot to mention in this video (I knew I wasn't properly explaining things): you can drop dragon eggs using a static machine as well, but after 4 layers it becomes useless and has to be moved. This flying machine moves along as you remove bedrock, allowing you to remove bedrock indefinitely without having to rebuild it. ;-) Thanks for Conspiracy for motivating me to create this, it turned to be a fairly fun project.
