Little Rock - Highland Valley United Methodist Church (facebook.com/hvumclr) on Chenal Blvd is a relatively small church with around 700 members and an average Sunday attendance of 128 (contrast that with St. James UMC on Pleasant Valley Drive that has around 3,000 members and 1222 attending services each Sunday) according to 2021 UMC Data. It started out in that location as Pride Valley Methodist Church when that part of the road was Kanis Road (before the parkway). It was a little country church at that time. In the 1970's Highland UMC on 12th St (now Hoover UMC) was merged with Pride Valley and renamed Highland Valley and a new building was constructed . It is a predominantly white congregation with a Black minister. They have a food pantry that is open each Wednesday from 3pm to 6pm. Their food pantry (they call it the Warehouse) collects donations from individuals and the Arkansas Food Bank and has a different focus each month (they just posted that tuna is what they are collecting now, in June it was canned vegetables). A woman that claims to be "an evangelist and servant of God" posted this video about her haul from the church yesterday. She claimed she was getting food for a homeless man and bitched about what she was given. Perhaps had she arrived earlier her haul would have been more bountiful.
