"Hopes and Dreams", "Last Goodbye" / "SAVE The World", and even "His Theme" for the final third of the video!
Huge shoutout goes out to Gabe for nominating "Hopes and Dreams", and many thanks goes out to all of you whom voted for Undertale during COVER BATTLEGROUNDS III! I hope this will have been worth the long wait =).
So originally, this was ONLY going to be "Hopes and Dreams" by itself, with maybe a few small changes and additions... however as you can see, that is not how things turned out!
Just like with any project, I always want to make sure I have a good grasp of the source material. I know I'm like four or five years late to the party, but recently I finally got to experience Undertale for the first time ever (such a wonderfully charming little game!).
I had already been really looking forward to working on this one... and that was before I truly understood the full context of the song(s). After completing the normal and True Pacifist endings, I felt very moved by them. Honestly, I guess you could say that it filled me with DETERMINATION!
During my planning phase, I knew that I absolutely needed to combine "Hopes and Dreams" with "Last Goodbye" and "SAVE The World". I also really took a liking to "His Theme", and I felt like it'd make a nice end for the video.
I've gotta say, I always really REALLY love working on such upbeat/uplifting tracks. I had such a great feeling while working on this cover. It felt very similar to how I felt while working on "Those Who Fight" from my FF7 Medley.
I tried my best to stick close to the sound and spirit of the originals here. I made sure to try and make the strings and synths sound close to the originals as well.
The way I look at this, the first 2/3 of the video is like the "Hope" part with how upbeat (and hopeful) it is. Then the last 1/3 with "His Theme" is like the "Dream".
After being all upbeat, it just felt wrong to end it with the notes ringing out at around 6:02. I felt like it needed something calming to come down from the energy from earlier.
Originally this final bit was supposed to be a longer combination of "His Theme" and "Undertale". However, as soon as I started playing along with the song, I wound up creating a new bass-line, and just sort of did my own thing in the end. I'm also always happy whenever I get to use my Strat for nice clean parts. I think it really shines when it comes to the sort of style heard here. Maybe I might put together an album or EP comprised entirely of relaxing tracks like this.
... but that's a project for another time. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the video!

Its always fun whenever I get a chance to throw a pipe organ into the mix!
So, as per usual, I tried to stick close to the original. Song structure is the same, I just tweaked and added a couple of small things here and there.
To really go further with that gothic kind of vibe with the organ, I threw in some choir parts to accompany it.
I wound up changing the rhythm guitar part around 0:50. I decided to riff around a little, and also made up some simple leads to play alongside it.
Also, I kept imagining some slow, sinister laughter, so I threw one in starting at 1:50. Which then leads into some good ol fun noodling on the leads.
I also decided to beef up the rhythm guitars after the sinister laugh bit. Going from single/root notes, to power-chords, for more oomph!
I dont know what it is about this final section, but it really makes me feel kind of nostalgic. Like, it makes me think of the covers Ive done from the previous Doom marathons. Just has a wonderfully Doomy-vibe to me.

This ones certainly been a VERY long time coming! Its time for this marathons credits roll.. but it aint over yet, weve still got 3 more to go!!
Really love how this one turned out, also had fun jamming out to this one too. I think one of my favorite things in this was the spacey and cool sounding piano that plays when everything is in full swing. Bass was also simple, but very fun to play (as seen by the energetic bouncing around).
Aside from extending things for a DAR-style outro, I tried to keep as faithful as I could to the original. One change I did do was adding some volume swelling automation on the strings/orchestra in the beginning. Just felt right, and dramatic! Also added a piano chord at the end too.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoy my take on this beautiful track m/! Also hope its been worth the wait, since I know some folks out there have been waiting a long, long time for this one in particular to get covered! ~DAR

So this ones a first for the channel, a cover of a motocross-themed pinball game! Another entry for the Subscriber Appreciation Event, many thanks and a big shoutout to longtime subscriber Ren, for requesting this one. This ones certainly been a LONG long time coming (since the Cover Battlegrounds II days, I think?), hope its been worth the wait, man =). (also thank you for sharing that sounds.dat file, it made going through the sound effects much easier!)
I just absolutely loved how old-school rock n roll this whole soundtrack was! I tried my best to keep true to the original. Any changes I made were just slight alterations to the leads, that and then theres what I dub the freestyle section during the main theme! I really enjoyed coming up with that part (and playing it too!). The crowd sounds really made that part sound even more hype too, in my opinion.
Also, I didnt mean for this one to take so long to get finished! I got sidetracked researching various VST plugins (which came in handy here actually!), researching streaming stuff, working on a test cover of sorts, and I also wasnt feeling too hot for like a week or so too. However, after all that, I think I was able to come back strong with this one!
At some point during the mixing process, I thought about how itd be cool to have a little arcade ambience in the intro and sticking coins into the machine. It was also my way of still including the CREDIT jingle, since originally I was going to end the cover on that riff, but later decided that the ball-lost/game-over tune was better for that and made more sense too. I also decided to have the medley fade out with that arcade ambience too. Adding to that, while I was recording a couple of playthroughs, I decided to use the final score sounds at the end of one of my good games.

With the recent release of the Nocturne remaster, I figured this would be a great opportunity to cover something thats been sitting in the To-Do List for a while! Shoutout to Kaisogen for suggesting this one a while back (specifically the battle version).
Originally, I was only going to cover the battle version of this track, but while looking around on Youtube, I came across the normal version. At this point, I second-guessed myself, and wasnt sure which one had been requested. So, before heading back to my Covers To-Do List, I gave the normal version a listen, and thought to myself, ...why not combine both?. Pretty happy with how this combo turned out, the normal version breaks up the action of the battle version quite nicely (in my opinion).
I had a tricky time trying to get the clean guitar parts to sound the way that I wanted. By the end, I still wasnt completely satisfied with it, but it worked well enough. I just couldnt quite figure out how to imitate the clean tone from the original. I thought Id be able to pull it off with my Strat, but no luck. Maybe a Telecaster would be able to do it, or maybe Im just lacking the right amp-sim/Cab-IR combo.
Anyhow, to spice things up a bit, I wound up adding some new guitar parts here and there. Aside from these new additions, I tried to follow and keep things true to the mood of the original.
Also, apologies for how long this took me to get out. I meant to have this out either the day of or day before the release of the remaster. Youd be surprised how hard it can be sometimes to get in the right mood to record a video... Plus all the thunderstorms randomly knocking my power out didnt help much either.
Anyways, I did enjoy jamming out to this one. Its always a pleasure to cover a Shoji Meguro composition! I hope you all enjoy the cover! ~DAR
