FIND OUT MORE ON THE QAGOMA BLOG: https://blog.qagoma.qld.gov.au/understanding-the-work-of-queensland-artist-robert-macpherson/ Brisbane-born painter Robert MacPherson (1937–2021) was one of Australia’s most significant artists and found inspiration in everyday life, including in the slang words and scientific terms that we often take for granted. In this clip, Samantha Littley, Curator Australian Art, explores a much-loved artwork by MacPherson in the QAGOMA Collection, 'Mayfair: (Swamp rats) ninety-seven signs for C.P., J.P., B.W., G.W. & R.W.' 1994–94, in which the artist riffs on the hand-painted signs that appear on the verges of our nation’s byroads and highways.
