On November 18, 2019, an undercover reporter from The Times of London met the owner of Formations House, a U.K. company services provider, under the pretense of being a potential new client.
The reporter asked for advice on how her “Macedonian boyfriend” could anonymously deposit large sums of cash in a European bank account in order to set up a luxury used-car dealership.
We asked David Clarke, the chairman of the UK’s Fraud Advisory Panel, for his reaction to the videotaped conversation.
The Times, OCCRP, Finance Uncovered and other media partners have been delving into the inner workings of Formations House, which claims to have churned out over 400,000 companies for clients around the globe.
Some of these companies, the investigation found, were sold to alleged and convicted criminals.
