Cope rex: a tyrant among tyrants. It’s one of the only T. rexes supposedly bigger than the famous Sue that’s held on to its status as a worthy challenger. A Canadian specimen, Scotty, made headlines in 2019, but it turned out that when using the same measurement standards it was smaller than Sue. MOR 1126, Celeste, was hyped up by Jack Horner as being ten percent bigger than Sue, but no measurements were ever released. UCMP 137538…well, it’s a toe bone. But Cope, while not being complete, still preserves many of the bones most important for size estimation, and they’re gigantic. In this video we’ll cover the history of the specimen and share insight from its discoverers and excavators, including updated size comparisons for what might be the largest terrestrial predator ever found.
