The Amen Break is a short drum sample originating from the song "Amen, Brother" by the 1960s funk and soul band The Winstons. It is one of the most widely used and recognizable drum breaks in the history of music, particularly in the genres of jungle, drum and bass, and hip-hop.
The break consists of a six-second drum solo performed by Gregory Cylvester "G.C." Coleman, the drummer of The Winstons. It features fast, syncopated drum patterns with a distinctive "Amen" vocal sample layered on top. The break became iconic when it was sampled and looped in various electronic music genres, creating the foundation for countless tracks.
