Today we are doing an unboxing of The Muppet Show Seasons 1, 2 & 3 which is in their original unedited version as aired.
The Muppet Show is a variety sketch comedy television series created by Jim Henson and starring the Muppets. The series originated as two pilot episodes produced by Henson for ABC in 1974 and 1975. While neither episode was moved forward as a series and other networks in the United States rejected Henson's proposals, British producer Lew Grade expressed enthusiasm for the project and agreed to co-produce The Muppet Show for the British station ATV. Five seasons, totaling 120 episodes, were broadcast on ATV and other ITV franchises in the United Kingdom and in first-run syndication in the United States from 1976 to 1981. The program was produced and recorded at the ATV Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
The Muppet Show: Season One is a 2005 four-disc DVD set collecting all twenty-four episodes of the first season of The Muppet Show for the first time. It was released in the UK as The Muppet Show: Series One.
The episodes are presented with the original first season openings, which have not been seen since the 1990s, when they were replaced on first season episode reruns and home video releases by the second season openings. In addition, the set contains all twenty-four UK Spots, sketches that were not initially intended to be aired in the United States and that have only been seen in selected reruns, compilations, and home video releases.
Several edits made to the episodes due, in part, to music licensing issues, are detailed below. Most of the edited episodes appear fully intact on the German release, including the optional English sound track.
The Muppet Show: Season Two is a four-disc DVD set collecting all twenty-four episodes of the second season of The Muppet Show for the first time. Similar to the first season set, the DVDs are dubbed a "special edition" release, and select copies have a fuzzy cover.
The Muppet Show: Season Three is a four-disc DVD set collecting all the episodes of the third season of The Muppet Show. The set includes all 24 episodes from the third season, uncut, digitally transferred, plus a vintage television special, a new behind-the-scenes featurette, and a collection of Muppet commercials.
Each disc begins with a clip of Fozzie Bear telling a joke (either from "An Actor's Life for Me" or the "At the Dance" sketch from Episode 311), followed by footage of Scooter pushing scenery and various scenes with Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy hosting the disc.
Similar to the first and second season sets, the initial release features a limited-edition fuzzy cover.
