Tims Retro Corner | Unboxing the MiniPET 40/80 @TimsRetroCorner | Uploaded February 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
I got a PET for Christmas! Well, a Tynemouth Software MiniPET 40/80 to be precise. This is a kit, so you have to build it yourself. "Some (okay lots) soldering required." It came from TheFuture Was 8Bit: thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/tynemouth-products/minipet4080.html
The Commodore PET (or CBM as it was sometimes called), was the first computer I ever used. And I always had a hankering for one. In the old days I didn't have the money, and now I don't have the space (these things are built like a brick shithouse) and so the MiniPet, which is small, 100% compatible (they're sometimes sold as motherboard replacements...) and can work with a regular monitor, seemed like the ideal substitute.
All you C64 fans with your fancy colours and sprites and SID tunes can leave them at the door, cos this is the machine that put the PET in PETSCII!
