This is basically a Bandai Namco Greatest Hits Lineup.. The Arcade1Up Class of ’81 Deluxe Arcade Machine is a solid pick for anyone chasing that early ’80s arcade feel without hunting down original machines..
The 5-foot design gives it a more authentic arcade presence and the light-up marquee really helps it stand out in a game room. The game lineup is good, but the classics like Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga does carry the experience in my opinion.. It’s also a cleaner setup than older Arcade1Up units since it doesn’t require a riser..
The build quality is good for home use, but it’s still lighter and less durable than a real deal.. Assembly is required, as usual and the controls, while decent, aren’t true Arcade Grade, but it works just fine..
Final thoughts...
The Arcade1Up Class of ’81 Deluxe Arcade Machine lands in that space most modern recreations do.. It captures the look and spirit of the 80s era without being a true one to one of the original Arcade Machine..
From a collector’s standpoint, the cabinet itself is the draw.. The form factor, artwork, and Arcade Game lineup make it a strong display piece and it represents the early ’80s arcade scene well enough to earn a spot in a lineup.. It’s the kind of piece you keep powered on as much for the atmosphere as the gameplay..
Where it falls short is under the hood. Since it doesn’t run the original Namco Class of ’81 ROM, you’re missing some of the deeper quirks tied to that release, most notably the hidden Pac-Man access that longtime fans know about. It’s a small detail, but for collectors, those details matter, and its absence is noticeable.
Overall, it’s not a purist’s piece, it’s a curated, modern version of the experience. But if you’re building a collection that balances authenticity with practicality, it still fits.
