Summer is around the corner and we’re nearly overheating with success at the University of Minnesota
We celebrated our 200th startup since 2006 and a #1 ranking for tech transfer in the region—10th nationally
17 U of M System students and alumni were offered Fulbright awards to study and teach abroad
1 faculty member was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
3 faculty were named to the National Academy of Sciences
And 1 faculty member was awarded a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship!
Meanwhile…
President Joe Biden helped us say goodbye to a national hero during Walter Mondale’s memorial service
The U of M System was ranked among the top schools for addressing hunger and health in the U.S.
And we were named to a $360 million partnership to improve water management
U of M Morris helped launch the Center for Renewable Energy Storage Technology
We hired the U of M's first systemwide chief sustainability officer
And we launched a first-of-its-kind Center for Climate Literacy to help young people understand climate change
The Washington Post highlighted Rochester’s ‘College in 3’ effort to redesign the undergraduate student experience
And the U will host the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games!
As 2026 co-chair, President Gabel attended the 2022 opening ceremonies.
Our research is off to a hot start, too
Our scientists invented a groundbreaking “chameleon metal” that could vastly improve energy storage and renewable fuel production
And created a spark plug alternative that produces zero emissions and doubles fuel economy
And a smartphone-powered microchip for faster and more affordable at-home medical testing
And we kicked off a partnership with Sandia National Labs to advance national security research!
We couldn’t be more impressed by our wide-ranging student successes
Law School students won the Thurgood Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition for the first time in history
While Crookston students, faculty, and staff banded together to protect the Crookston community from severe flooding
A microbial engineering student helped identify a bacteria that breaks down "forever chemicals"
U of M Duluth launched a new Childhood Nature Studies major built around social justice and ecological responsibility
And students, faculty, and staff took time for fun at the ballpark during U of M Day at Target Field!
