“Umbrella Street” is one of the very first pieces of the new Frankenstein era, written in 2023, and it quickly became my go-to opening track, finally replacing “Forsaken” at my shows.
It has everything you need for the perfect opener: short, uplifting, dynamic, not too busy with techniques or deeper hidden meanings. Just pure detuning joy and catchy melodies!
I composed it on some careless summer day in a small city in the south of Austria called Villach. For a while, I was staying in a hotel there that was facing one of the city’s main streets - long and narrow - and between the sides of the street, there were dozens of colorful umbrellas hanging, reflecting sunlight onto the walls, ground, windows, and faces.
It feels like I have a picture of that umbrella street engraved in my memory - warm and full of sunshine.
Fun fact: this is Jon Gomm’s favorite song of mine and that makes me so proud of it!
