Some of the most respected UK folk singer-songwriters didn’t make much noise when their records were first released.
In this video, I go through a selection of albums from 1965–1972 that were largely overlooked at the time. Today, some of them are widely appreciated, some are still forgotten. I also include Jackson C. Frank here, who, although American, was very much part of the UK scene.
Records shown:
0:00 Intro
1:49 Jackson C. Frank – Seltitled (UK 1965 on Columbia)
5:36 John Williams – Selftitled (UK 1967 on Columbia)
8:55 Roy Harper – Sophisticated Beggar (UK 1967 on Strike)
12:17 Nick Drake – Five Leaves Left (UK 1969 on Island Records)
15:08 Mick Softley – Sunrise (UK 1970 on CBS)
18:24 Nick Pickett – Silversleeves (UK 1972 on Reprise Records)
20:29 End talk
