Godfrey Bloom takes a critical look at Britain’s defence strategy, military spending and the changing nature of modern warfare.
Are aircraft carriers, expensive combat aircraft and traditional military doctrine still appropriate in an era increasingly dominated by drones, ballistic and hypersonic missiles, intelligence and electronic warfare?
Drawing on his own experience studying and lecturing on defence and geopolitical strategy, Godfrey argues that Britain needs to fundamentally reconsider what “defence of the realm” actually means. He questions Britain’s involvement in conflicts overseas, the continued focus on projecting military power, NATO policy towards Russia, and calls for resources to be concentrated much closer to home.
He also discusses Ukraine, Russia, Iran, the Middle East, immigration, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and argues that Britain could defend itself effectively without dramatically increasing defence spending — provided that money is spent in the right places.
