odata2ts was born in the context of a React and UI5-Webcomponents based application and the strong desire to handle OData queries in a type-safe way. As its name suggests odata2ts is first and foremost a generator. It uses the metadata description (EDMX) of V2 or V4 OData services to produce different kinds of TypeScript-based artefacts: From interfaces representing entities to a full-fledged domain-specific OData client.

We show how odata2ts works, how to integrate it into your UI5 build process and explain its basic as well as some of the more advanced configuration options. We then turn to three main use cases for odata2ts within UI5:
- using typed entity models
- using the type-safe query builder
- using the full-fledged client

Finally, we teaser the combination with ui5-mobx, which allows for preserving all type information when it comes down to managing state in UI5.
