Pauline Couture has lived with chronic knee pain for nearly 30 years after. At the Rehabilitation Pain Service at UHN's Toronto Rehab, world-renowned pain specialist Dr. Andrea Furlan diagnosed her with nociplastic pain — a type of chronic pain caused by faulty processing in the brain.

Pain reprocessing therapy — a combination of education, physical exercises and cognitive strategies — helped Pauline shift her brain's response to pain and walk without pain.
