As leaders from across the world gather in Abuja for the GAFCON conference, the future shape of the Anglican movement is very much in view. In this Pastor’s Heart special, Dominic Steele speaks with Stephen Kaziimba, Archbishop and Primate of Church of Uganda, about the discussions taking place as leaders consider the formation of the new Global Anglican Communion.
Uganda has come strongly represented at the conference, with more than fifty delegates including bishops, clergy and lay leaders. Archbishop Kaziimba reflects on the strong sense of purpose among participants and the growing focus on re-ordering the communion around a shared commitment to Scripture and the proclamation of the gospel.
As Archbishop Kaziimba explains, the call before Anglican leaders is to choose whom they will serve and to move forward together in faith rather than looking back. His hope is that churches across Africa and beyond will prayerfully consider joining the emerging global structure.
In this conversation, he also extends a gracious invitation to Anglican leaders who are not yet part of the movement: come, pray, seek God and walk together in unity around the authority of Scripture and the mission of Christ.
